For 2 years now they've tried to make a go of it despite being blocked at every turn when trying to expand/improve. The owners are a charity funded group called Enable.. who leased the tea rooms and polytunnels out to the current manager and his family. Its with a sad heart that they made the decision too shut the doors... More

I first visited the Herb Garden after seeing it featured on BBC Gardener's World some years ago. I became a firm fan and regular visitor, but after my latest visit, I will never come back again. Lynne, the original owner, built this garden up from nothing, into a botanists dream. She was a passionate plantswoman and herb specialist, always willing... More

I have just been to the Herb Garden with a friend and enjoyed a very good value "afternoon tea for two". For your £12 you can enjoy a round of sandwiches, 2 slices of homemade cake, a homemade scone with jam and clotted cream and a pot of tea....each. There was so much of it that we didn't manage to... Lynn Raynor, the previous owner, would be So very distressed to see her beautiful herb garden go to such rack and ruin. The new owners do not have the experience to run such a former prestigious herb garden that had such a good reputation, ~ such a shame. Maybe employing a gardener who has knowledge of herbs would be a... More

I finally got around to visiting after 30 years of hearing good things about it (but not lately). It's pretty disappointing. There are, I believe, new owners so maybe things are about to change, but if it was mine I would probably close it for a couple of months and do some really intensive sorting out in order to make... Called her a number of times. Not a big place, but with outdoor as well, fine. Watch your footing in the car park. Served quickly, some unusual cakes (eg. lavender scones & lavender cake.) compared to main stream coffee shops, and they all taste great,. Not to sure about the coffee beans on top of the coffee cake though. Good... More

Cannot comment on the actual herb garden as we only called for tea and cakes. It is a very small tea room and if you have got several people in there talking loudly along with crockery being clashed together the noise is a little overpowering. The tea is good and served in a China teapot and China cups which I... More

I knew the couple who originally began this garden from a tray at the side of the road. They would be appalled if they could see it now. We went a few weeks ago and the gardens were unkempt and suffering from a lack of water. The bedding plants in the greenhouse were all half dead. The tea room is... More

We called in on Sunday afternoon while we were in the area and are very glad that we did. Lovely friendly people, proper tea and lovely children's meals. Our girls (6 and 2) loved being able to play on the grass while we finished our tea. It is nice that the herb garden isn't trimmed and pruned excessively and it... More
