English Heritage members so didn't have to pay the fee, however having visited many EH sites I feel this one may be a little over priced. Many of the rooms are bare and part of the castle is just ruins but the audio guide does a great job of bringing the place to life, this are easy to use and... More

Amazing place with a lot of informative signs. Would like to reassure staff that I did eventually find my boyfriend and dogs after two hours of searching! Would like to possibly see more furnishings inside the little castle. Exhibition was great. Hopefully will one day get to see the horses

English Heritage have done a great job here. The new wall walk is wonderful. The adventure playground is perfect. If you happen there on a day when they have special events then the kids will have a fantastic time. A place we return to again and again and never get tired of it.

I enjoy castles anyway, and although Bolsover is really a ruin it is very large with lots to explore and the little castle in the centre is very pleasant to walk through. The entrance is through the gift shop/café and we had been on the road for a while so we paid to enter but ate first. The soup of... More

We had meant to visit Bolsover Castle for half a lifetime and never quite got round to it - a TV programme spurred us into action. We were very surprised by its scale and how interesting it was. The audio guide was free and invaluable for a full understanding of the place. It's right in the town centre and has... More

English Heritage on top form again with Bolsover Castle. We enjoyed the Cavalier Horsemen show which was very impressive. Our eldest, 6, enjoyed exploring the grounds and understanding why there was new almost white stonework: we then talked about how stone ages and looked carefully at the older parts of the castle. The new children's playground is perfect and much... More

We travelled all the way from Somerset to watch the riding demonstration and it was worth every mile. The castle itself was amazing and you can imagine all the goings on that happened there, the shop was great, the information on the tour fantastic the staff knowledgeable and interesting, the views were spectacular but the riding just had to be... First visit to Bolsover castle, impressive buildings, but it was spoiled for me by the lack of information about the different rooms ,yes we bought a guide but I did not have time to read it till I got home, some people had an audio guide but we were not offered one so we finished up wandering round empty rooms...
