Impressive castle ruin (well, mostly) in the heart of Derbyshire. On the English Heritage website, it's No.6 of their top ten of castles and mansions in Britain. I wouldn't go that far, but it's certainly worth the 30min bus ride from Chesterfield. And there's a well-above-average Wetherspoon pub just around the corner that you can relax in after your visit... More

It was cold and it wasn't the weather to sit about. On a nice day you could have picnicked and stayed much longer. The views are unbelievable. The audio tour was very informative and our 9 year old liked it. The little castle was very good. It's not a castle with loads of furniture, very much architecture but it's really... More

Very inexpensive, nice CAFE, regular events, a good day out. We've only been there the once despite living reasonably close. There was a reenactment of a knights battle which was very entertaining. The theatre company they used, really connected well with the audience. We were lucky with weather and the kids enjoyed trying on costumes and learning how to sword... More

An excellent venue for both Adults and Children, especially when there are events on. I had a very fun packed day with my grand children

Went on a winter's day, and found this castle with amazing views a great day out. Lots to see, the only tudor riding building in England, and (unusually for English Heritage) some of the astle still has a roof! Plenty to see in the small castle, the starry ceilinged room was beauriful, lovely to see much of the interior panelling... More

Very pleasantly surprised, went on a damp December day for something to do and really found it extremely interesting and enjoyable. Well worth a visit, will go back on a clear day to see the views.

OK a bit of Licence but us Derbyshire folk do talk differently The Castle though is an English Heritage Property so members get in free as do all our kids (Yes I'm a disabled member) The castle is great to visit on a sunny day as for us wheelchair users a lot of the inside is impossible to access after... I find it quite sad that this place has been 'modernised', plastered and painted away from what it should be. Certain areas are really interesting but the main castle is no longer what it once was which is a big shame. Why paint a fireplace to look like marble? If it breaks don't repair it, let people experience it's age.

I am a frequent visitor here when I have guests staying. Especially visitors from abroad love this castle. I used to take my kids here on a regular basis as they always loved it. It is a very interesting castle and lots to see. If you have the kids audio guide that is really good too. My friends from Canada... More

This was my third visit to Bolsover Castle and free admission as I'm an English Heritage member. Parking spaces are limited, but there are other places to park close by. It's an enchanting place to visit with a mixture of ruins and intact buildings some of which are furnished. The turret is great to walk around and you get spectacular... More
