As English Heritage members, there are a number of properties which we visit once or twice a year, and Bolsover Castle is one which is always very enjoyable. There is a good contrast between the ruined terrace range, and the new castle. The views from the terrace are nice, and there are often events on. I'd recommend a visit any... More

We went as a family of four - with two young children (5 and 2) and had a great time. The castle itself is large and in "ruins" in parts but there's plenty of indoor rooms and stair cases to explore and even a dressing up room. The playground is great. There are two baby swings, two big swings, a... More

I came here because a friend wanted to visit. I did not know what to expect but was impressed with the lovely views. The castle itself is well preserved but part of it is in ruins. I was not able to visit all the castle because there was not a handrail on the stairs and the steps seemed too much... More

Had a very enjoyable afternoon exploring this lovely castle. We did not visit the gymkhana event they were showing but that looked like it would be good. The day started with brunch at the weatherspoons in the carpark before we set off to explore the ruins. There are a lot of steps to climb in narrow stair wells so if... More

We visited Bolsover castle today with our 7 month old son, we was enjoying a lovely day until it came to dinner time when they point blankly refused to warm my sons dinner. We was told that they are not allowed to do this as they could be held liable if my son became ill. I think this is an... More

As previous reviewer states, use Junction 29A from M1 or you will be sent all over the place. I thought the visit was worth every penny. A very hot day - but lovely shady places to sit a while, and good access to most of it for those not so sure footed. Fantastic views from the castle. We went on... More

Visited on a lovely sunny day. We were amazed at the set up when we walked into the visitors centre. Smashing friendly welcome and we were offered a free audio guide which was very good. Had a picnic which we had brought with us asbwe have never been before and didn't know what to expect. The picnic tables were great... More

Easy access from the M1 as long as you use Junction 29A. Junction 29 takes round the houses. It is part of the ‘English Heritage’ so you have free entry if you are a member. It is a bit pricey if you have to pay. Very imposing view from the motorway, it doesn’t quite live up to this impression when... More
