Visited during the 'Siege' event at which there were mock battles outside the castle. We all thoroughly enjoyed the event; it was actually quite humorous at times. Lots of pitched tents replicating a medieval fair. Was lots to see, if items were rather expensive to buy. The castle itself really is a hidden gem. Lots of it remains intact and... More

We went for the Knights event tues 25th May 2015. Ages 34, 6, and 4 years. We had a lovely day today. The views were fantastic. And plenty to see. Inside the castle there were lots of steps everywhere to lead you into all different rooms. In a couple of them they had some dress ups for the kids for... More

A pleasant, small attraction close to home. But you only need a couple of hours to visit. The castle is great. Some great kids entertainment. Clean facilities. The guides were really helpful. Unfortunately the service in the cafe was abysmal. One member of staff serving everyone. Ruined our visit as we stood in line for about 20 minutes.

We stopped off at Bolsover Castle en route to York. It is all you would expect from an English Heritage property: friendly, knowledgeable staff; beautifully maintained site that presents history in an engaging way. Well worth the side-trip.

Not really enough to do for a full day out. But nether the less was lots of fun for all ages. The shows were fun and lots about the history of the castle.

We visited this place on a snowy day back in 2010 to Plan our wedding for Aug, we were shown round it is impressive but not exactly value for money wedding wise, other stuff like nick nacks mmm ok bit pricey compared to other places. For a grand you don't get an awful lot 3 grand gives you a bit... More

I had heard of Bolsover being unusual and as we were in the area took the chance to see it. Very interesting and different from other castles and a lovely situation with great views. The Riding House and the Little Castle were particularly good but all had been very well restored. Good guidebook. Only slightly negative aspect was the tearoom... More

We went to visit Bolsover Castle during the last school holidays, what a great place to go. The visitor guides were helpful and full of information there was so much to see and do especially for the kids, from dressing up to the horse show. the views out over Derbyshire were fantastic and it was a pretty little town to... The headsets could be purchased in a childs version or more complex adult one. We chose the childs version so we could here and talk it thro with our son it was lovely. I... More

As members of the English Heritage, this was a cheap day out. Since this was close and had a very small section in the Heritage Handbook, we weren't expecting much just something to walk around for an hour on an overcast Saturday. I was very pleasantly surprised. Not only is there plenty to do, it's also geared up for children... More
