Very helpful and well-informed staff, superb guide who took us on a fascinating walking tour. The reception staff were warm and friendly so much so that we joined English Heritage on the day of our visit. Excellent cafe. The castle itself is extensive with reasonable access to most areas. There are explanatory displays and exhibitions though the film show wasn't... More

The "official" car park is a little small, but there are plenty of bigger parking areas nearby. Nice and clean - great for the kids to explore, with fantastic views over the M1 valley towards Sutton Scarsdale Hall and Chesterfield in the distance. The Café is a little expensive, but aren't they all. There's a "chain pub" next door -... More

One of my favourite spots in the area. Ok it's rather chilly on a breezy day, and let's not mention driving rain...due to the height of it's location. But the views are breathtaking and the children's events are fun and educational. It's good for children who are not keen on being inside as there is tons of outdoor spaces to... More

I enjoyed looking around, however the cost of going in outweighs the attraction sadly. If this was cheaper I would spend a lot of time here.

What a great night, we screamed, laughed, did our own ghost hunting, the whole castle was dressed for the full effect, the actors was fantastic and scary and funny. we went round twice and then went on a ghost hunting tour of the Castle, very scary and great value, and super fun thanks Bolsover see you next year

Visited the castle on Halloween 2012 "Fantastic" what a night, all the grounds were decorated with body bags etc, talks were taking place in various rooms and a scene in the basement which was very well presented, there was a good turnout..I returned 2014 with friends after recommending a brilliant night only to be sadly disappointed! The whole event lasted... More

A friend and myself paid £10 each for the creepy castle at night on Halloween, we've never been so disappointed with anything like this in our lives!! The whole experience lasted 20 minutes and consisted of four or five people dressed up as characters from the past certainly not worth £10 of anyone's money!!

We called in here on a whim whilst driving past on a child free weekend. Unfortunately we were completely disappointed! There's just no depth to the place, the obvious modern renovations have made the castle devoid of all historical memory and there is just no *feeling of history* there. Because restorations have taken place it is no longer a ruin... More

Found the directions for parking particularly confusing. The tiny car park to which we were directed had a barrier across, was full and no information as to an alternative. Actually it is better to ignore the turn to Bolsover Castle P, drive a little way up the main street to the Parking on the left. This is spacious and free.... More

Haven't been for a couple of years, what a change. The main castle has been updated and redecorated. Far better and a lot more interesting. Excellent views of area on clear day. There was a horse display for an extra cost which was excellent. This is only at certain times of the year. The gardens have been improved and there... More
