Lots of information on the paintings in the building (ground floor rooms only). Limited information on the other exhibitions and wonderful ceiling in the long gallery and the gilded mirrors unless you ask the guides. Gardens were lovely but not sure I saw it all but was not going to pay an extra 50p for the garden plan, would have... More

Worth a visit if you're in the area. Impressive collection of old paintings and décor in the state rooms. Knowledgeable room guides. It's worth exploring the extensive grounds. Make sure that you don't miss the walled gardens and the gothic bath house.

How can a house be both impressive and yet not? It is indeed a fine house from the outside and the grounds and gardens are wonderful but somehow it seems to feel a bit like an old fashioned art gallery. £20 for two seemed a bit steep too but the setting is really wonderful even if the house is undewelming

I am glad you liked the grounds and the gardens. Your point about the State Rooms seeming like an old-fashioned art gallery is interesting, because I see this as a strength, rather than a weakness... After all, the rooms were laid out in the 18th century for the public to come and admire the collection of Old Master paintings. By... More

We were a bit 'miffed' to get as far as the pay point [in the music room] to find that we couldn't pay by plastic card; a "Cash only" sign with the displayed prices nearer the car park would have been helpful. We're fit, but not everyone would take kindly to the walk into the town to get cash. NB,... More

Thanks for the remarks about paying by card. I am sorry that you were inconvenienced. We do also accept cheques, but people don't seem to use them much. It is only during the past few months that one or two visitors have requested to pay by card and we shall certainly revisit this issue. There is a great deal of... More

We visited Corsham having planned a walk around the estate. What we hadn't planned was finding such a delightful town. The fact that it was used as the location for Poldark's town scenes was unknown and a display of location photos featuring Aiden Turner was very easy on the eye! It is even prettier and more atmospheric than Lacock. Corsham... More

Amazing property & a real hidden treasure. One of the best preserved attractions I've seen & so much to see. Incredible to think it's been in the same family for over 250 years. Excels some national trust properties! And great value too. The room guides were very polite & informative. The gardens are lovely & peaceful & the parkland is... More

Arrived late afternoon, wish we'd allowed more time as there is so much to see if you enjoy art. The paintings were superbly displayed, particularly the picture gallery which is the most perfectly proportioned room. Capability Brown at his best. Room guides were excellent, very friendly and informative. Didn't have time to see gardens. Not a very good place to... More

Stayed around in Corsham to wait for the gardens to open - should not have bothered. It is mainly park land, very few plants worth seeing, not really gardens at all. Been to many gardens and counrty houses - this one is the very bottom of our pile! We have better "gardens" in our local parks - and they are... More

We make a great effort with the gardens and there is plenty to see. Not only does the gardens have the Grade One building the 18th century Bath House, the oriental plane, which is registered as the largest tree in Great Britain, but also extensive flowering shrubs and borders with herbaceous plants. The North Walk, laid out by Capability Brown,... More

We visited Corsham Ct gardens with our kids and another family. The gardens were beautiful but we found most of the staff unfriendly and even hostile. On our arrival, a man rushed out to say we weren't allowed there unless we'd paid (we had every intention of paying) and a woman inside the main house told my partner not to... More

There is a sign on the front gate which states that visitors to the property passing this point should go to the main entrance of the house and buy their tickets (ticket prices are displayed at this point). If visitors to the gardens come right up to the house and do not come in to buy a ticket, then a... More
