So much has been written about Stourhead house and garden I feel I can add little to the discussion, but although it is, undoubtedly a splendid 18th century landscape garden with a magnificent Palladian house, once home to the wealthy banking family, the Hoares, I was just a little disappointed. This is all to do with me, though, and not... More

with our relies from Brighton we were looking for an interesting day out in attractive gardens with some historical and architectural interest. Stourhead was right on the button! Add to that a bright sunny day and a convivial eating place and it was almost perfect. Unfortunately the rhododendrons were almost finished and we missed the blaze of colour they must... More

These are beautiful gardens. Many varieties of trees and shrubs. Some little gems in grottoes and buildings to view amongst the greenery. Lovely views. There are very few flowers but don't let this put you off, its well maintained and a pleasure to walk around the lake.

Stourhead is a magnificent estate. We could have spent 4 hours here. The path around the lake left us speechless. Looks like a rococco landscape painting, complete with Greek temples and grottos dotting the property. Stourhead makes a great day trip from London, and you'll drive right by Stonehenge. With all the rubbernecking you'll get a great view and can... More

We visited Stourhead House for the first time nearly 25 years ago when the house blew me away along with the stunning landscape. On our recent revisit, I somehow was not as blown away by the interiors, perhaps because I am more familiar with grand interiors, but the landscape scheme seemed even more transporting and wonderful than I remembered. Perhaps... More

Lovely place to visit. Specially the garden and lake, it likes a fairy tale place. I went there four years ago. It is an unforgettable place . Last time I went there after the rain. It was ashame that the path way are quite muddy and I didn't have enough time to walk around. Although this time it was not... More

Well sign posted (thanks for letting me down again sat nav!), Stourhead is a great venue but expensive if not a NT member. The gardens are extensive with lots of buildings and wonderful views as you stroll along the well laid footpaths. Some places quite steep and free map didn't always quite match with reality but navigation is easy. So... More

If you are into Landscape Gardens, Stourhead is a must see. My wife, two boys and I spent hours wandering the vast gardens, taking in the vistas and enjoying the wonderful history. We especially enjoyed the fact that the gardeners label so many of the exotic trees. The view from the Apollo Temple is just heavenly. Amazing.

I have little to add to what has been stated by the majority of the other visitors positive observations to Stourhead House and Garden other than the parking and our disabled and carer experience. The parking is an additional charge of £3 if you are not a NT member. Carer entry is complementary. We visited the garden/lake only as house... More
