Visited stourhead on a gorgeous sunny day which enhanced the gardens and a walk round the lake. The grounds look natural with surrounding woodland and plenty of places for picnics. The house is full of interest and artefacts with great stories. The facilities provided by the national trust complement the site. So if the weather is good or bad there... More

I cannot fault the magnificent gardens nor ex-banker Baron Hoare’s house in this ‘great to visit’ National Trust property. However the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired if you want more than an afternoon cup of tea/coffee and a great choice of cakes. Yesterday’s (Sunday’s) meal sounded appetising, their main choices being roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all... More

We have now visited Stourhead in the spring, summer and autumn, each time it feels very special. In addition there's the added bonus of the restaurant, in particular the beef cobbler.

This is one of the most loveliest places I have been to in the UK. The grounds at Stourhead are amazing, the lakes, the plants, the buildings, architecture. All of it is splendid. Stourhead is a National Trust property and is therefore very well maintained. It has a local shop and a few cafes and even a pub! You can... More

The best gardens I have ever visited. Full of interesting little hideaways, a fantastic magical grotto, a lovely lake and superb views.

Beautiful estate, especially the grounds with the stunning views of the lake and temples and the library in the house.

Beautiful estate, especially the gardens. Walking here is like stepping into a fairy tale world and move in it. Very enjoyable. Its farm shop had good fresh produce.

My family and I went to the Stourhead garden every year. We were fascinated by its beauty on our first visit. I recommended this place to all my friends, and they told me the same impression as me after their visits. This place belongs to the national trust, and you can visit it for free if you are a member... More

Thanks Eddie (and the Head Gardener here) for waxing so lyrically about Stourhead on PM, it made us stop off here on our way home from Cornwall. What a treat. I don't think I've ever seen such a variety of beautiful trees together in the same place; certainly not outside the Lake District. Very convent just off the A303 as... More
