The grounds are beautiful. Very well-maintained, though not quite to the level of Fountains Abbey. The spacing of things to see along the way was great for our 4-year-old's attention span. She powered through the walk with no problems, even climbing the steep path to visit the temple. Our favorite parts were the grotto, the template, and the absolutely wonderful... More

The house and extensive gardens are jewels in the National Trust crown. The house, with it's continuing theme of Harry, the only son who died in the 1st world war, will take you at least 45 minutes to tour adequately although I could really have done with sitting down in the magnificent library at the grand banking desk and rummaging... The visit to Stourhead Manor House and gardens was a wonderful day out; the manor house set in wonderful landscaped gardens with Pantheons, Gothic cottage, rotunda and a secret grotto which was built 260 years ago. The walk round the lake is really worth doing, there are benches to sit and plenty of places to stop for a picnic. The... More

We had a great time here, gardens are lovely and the lake. The walk around the lake takes quite a while but is well worth it. The house is magnificent. We had a lovely lunch in their restaurant. There is also a pub on site if you wish. Would definitely recommend a visit, there is a shuttle bus to take... More

Have been here before many moons ago with now deceased parents so quite a nostalgic trip back with my sister. Rhodedendrons, for which It's famous, of course aren't out in July but all the same the gardens were as stunning as we remembered and the swan family were an added treat. Didn't do the house.

Wonderful views and colours, this National trust property also includes a house, which is rather overshadowed by the gardens. Like most I rushed around the house as it closes at 4.30pm in order to take in the gardens in the evening sunshine. Although it was a Sunday it was not packed, and most visitors were walking in the same direction... More

We couldn't walk around the lake as scaffolding up and the lake was low and slimey. We love the place and visit regularly but were very disappointed yesterday.

I have wanted to visit the house and grounds for many years and finally got the opportunity. Sadly the lake had been drained due to a leak and one of the monuments was covered in scaffolding. There were signs apologising for the delay and in the repair to the lake and the scaffolding, but it was still disappointing. I am... More

The lake was smaller than all the photos make it look! The lake circumference was only about a mile, and the path is quite a way from the water's edge for much of it. I found the map supplied didn't match up to the reality, and it could have done with signposts in a couple of places - particularly to... More
