A great day out!

We were staying in the area having been to Longleat safari, saw the reviews so came for a look. (Parents and two children 4 & 6). Much of the main house was closed but we had... read more

We were staying in the area having been to Longleat safari, saw the reviews so came for a look. (Parents and two children 4 & 6). Much of the main house was closed but we had access to the entrance hall to warm by the large fire and get a glimpse further inside. There was also a series of lower... More

A lovely place to visit in Winter, with no leaves on the trees you can really enjoy the views and layout. and the Spread Eagle pub with its roaring fire is a perfect stop off point.

Visited on a dull but mostly dry winter's day which probably wasn't the best time to see it. Caught the very end of the autumn colour in early November. Decent walk all the way around the lake. Could spend the whole day there especially if you stop to look at all the labelled trees and shrubs. Some of the garden... More

As a member of the National Trust, I have visited Stourhead on many occasions as I find it a tranquil place to go with family and friends. The grounds are vast, so a picnic is our preference in drier weather,a flask for the colder days. We take a stroll through the grounds, stop off at the grotto then find a... More

The walk to Alfred's Tower (and back) is about 5 miles and can be muddy but was very enjoyable. The tower itself was shut, but I understand that this is seasonal. The gardens and lakes were delightful, albeit in their winter guise. Very busy, even on a grey early January Sunday !!

We came here for a pre wedding photos its a lovely place to come for a walk or picnic you can get a pre made picnic from the pub here aswell but I'd bring your own. Also the pub will not let dogs in and has a poor over priced food menu. We have been here a lot this and... More

Though the house was closed, we had a glorious walk around the beautiful lake and enjoyed the cafe and restaurant. Well worth a visit.

Have been twice now and have still only managed to tour the gardens. What a total pleasure ! This is a very attractive diversion from a trip down the A303 - take the time to stop and walk around the lake which will be about an hour or so depending on how fast you walk. Have visited in June and... More

We tend to visit Stourhead twice a year on route to Devon. There are some lovely lakeside and parkland walks and the vista across the lake to the temple is lovely. Best times to visit are May when the Rhodes and azaleas are blooming or October when the colours of the acres are superb. There is a good cafe, some... More

The gardens are lovely, particularly the walk round the lake and especially after December 1 when dogs on leads are allowed at any time - though they are allowed in after 4pm the rest of the year - too late if you live any distance away. It can be very busy in good weather at peak times - e.g. the... More
