I was very impressed by the lovely gardens which surround Stourhead House. The house itself was impressive from the outside although my husband and I did not venture into the house itself choosing instead to walk the approx 2 miles around the garden instead. A delightful experience, beautiful lake and some amazing architecture by way of temples and a tiny... More

Visited on Tuesday 9th September 2014. what a truly stunning place. Have driven by many times but never stopped before. Did not visit the house (not enough time) but spent a very pleasant afternoon in the small village there and in the extensive gardens and lake. Incidentally the weather was perfect. We walked down to the village pub (spread eagle... More

We have been to stour head loads of times, different times of the year, I just love it there. It's beautiful. Children can run around play and hide. Or no children is very romantic. Love it there!!

So peaceful and beautiful, a great variety of plants and trees and so well maintained and presented. We didn't visit the house and were not prepared to pay NT prices in the restaurant, but the gardens were fantastic.

Lovely house, family story to bring it alive. Beautiful grounds and scenic views. Gorgeous food, lovely shop, plenty of parking, ice cream parlour. A day out to remember. England at its best.

I agree with other reviewers (e.g. GuildfordGallivanter and Hilary C); the gardens are spectacular. It is really worth spending a couple of hours exploring the grounds and getting close and personal with the monuments. It helped that it was a nice sunny day, so I would recommend visiting during late Spring/Summer. The house itself was smaller than I expected but... More

This was such a find! The travels books need emphasize how awesome this place is! Spent 21/2 hours simply enjoying this lovely place. After the lovely stroll around the lake, we sat and relaxed with a glass of wine and delicious sandwich. Fantastic day.

It was thirty years since I had last been to Stourhead and had been developed as time demands, however I was really pleased to be back in such beautiful surroundings. The gardens and walks around the lake were simply stunning, it is a beautiful place with lots of interest for all ages. The walled garden was an area I had... More

This morning, we spent 2 hours exploring these wonderful gardens. Firstly, we wandered up to the walled garden which was just heavenly. Various varieties of fruit and vegetables grown in traditional ways. There is also a Pelargonium house which is absolutely fascinating mostly due to the rarities of the species. Found a well stocked secondhand bookshop too. After coffee and... More
