Spent a few hours in the afternoon walking around the lakeside and wooded paths and sitting in benches reading. Beautiful flowers and gardens and many varieties of trees. Interesting manor house with lovely walled garden. Several "folly" buildings on the grounds. Access to clean restrooms and some shady spots for sitting.

My vocabulary is insufficiently diverse to choose words that would do justice to this place. We have been so many times, even though it is not that close to home. Perhaps one word will do :- magnificent.

There can be fewer more stunning places to visit than Stourhead for its natural beauty and exquisite setting. A definite jewell in the crown of the National Trust, who maintain the house and magnificent landscape gardens to the highest possible standard. One of the wonders of the world.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the house and stunning gardens of Stourhead. Our visit was in late July but we could just imagine how beautiful the gardens would be in Spring or Autumn. The walk around the lake was lovely early morning(gardens open at 9am, house at about 11am I think). The story about the family and their only son ,lost... More

Enjoyed a very pleasant early evening walk around the lake. The circuit is nearly 2 miles, and well worth doing. There are plenty of classical landscape features to visit on the way round including a grotto, several monuments and a temple to Apollo.

I had read a little about this National Trust property, and other TripAdvisor reviewers have probably said most of what there is to say. We started off our visit by walking through the grounds and around the lake in warm sunshine, but one of our first thoughts was how interesting it must be to watch the seasons change in such... More

We spent the first day of our school holidays here and had the most wonderful time. The gardens are beautifully kept without being overly manicured and the lake walk is stunning. We took part in Forest Friday activities, including the tree climbing. There is plenty to do for children and we didn't do it all as enjoyed exploring the rest... More

The grounds are beautiful. Very well-maintained, though not quite to the level of Fountains Abbey. The spacing of things to see along the way was great for our 4-year-old's attention span. She powered through the walk with no problems, even climbing the steep path to visit the temple. Our favorite parts were the grotto, the template, and the absolutely wonderful... More

The house and extensive gardens are jewels in the National Trust crown. The house, with it's continuing theme of Harry, the only son who died in the 1st world war, will take you at least 45 minutes to tour adequately although I could really have done with sitting down in the magnificent library at the grand banking desk and rummaging...
