I was not too sure what to expect but this was well worth the trip. Very enthusiastic guides not only explained how this water mill had been converted to drive the machinery required to enable this mill to produce 140 spades a day but they actually did it in front of a fascinated audience. We watched a lump of steel... More

Visiting from Australia having married a local girl 35 years ago and found this little gem. The enthusiasm of the staff was commendable and we will be telling friends to make it a "Must see"

My husband phoned the Pattersons information number and a recorded message informed him that the mill was open for visits. We drove over 30 miles to look around the mill only to find when we arrived that they were closed. On phoning the national trust to complain about our 64 mile wasted round trip I was told that the Trust's website... More

Visited here as part of an extended weekend to visit Belfast and the Titanic quarter, as we are NT members if was free and had an absolutely fantastic hour and half, the two guys running the place were great and the tour was both informative, interesting and very well done. Would strongly recommend a visit to anyone in the area.

Went here with the family as we are National Trust members and this attraction is FREE to members. The tour last approxamatly 1 hour with plentiful information from your host. All the kilns get fired up for you no matter how big or small the group. Just for our family of 3 the hole show was put on. It is... More

A bit of history brought to life - excellent guides/spademakers that demonstrated how the spades were made and gave interesting information about the many types of spade that used to be made there and about the situations in which they were used. Not to be missed if you are in the area. Free entry for National Trust members.

I really enjoyed this glimpse into the Industrial Past of Northern Ireland. Seeing a spade being made from an scratch was a very informative. The enthusiasm of the guides is infectious. The plans to develop the site seem very onteresting.
