The castle is in fantastic condition which is then easy for you to imagine how it was all those years ago. There is a fair bit to explore and there are some fun stairs and great views to keep everyone entertained.

we had been shopping In Carmarthen and as we drove back through Kidwelly we saw the castle and thought we would visit. I drove up off the main road and parked the car in the car park. we walked in and noticed that there were great places still remaining inside, from the wall walk the views were exceptional now I... Great way to spend an hour or two. Lots of places to explore; behind walls, spiral staircases, wall walk. Great views all around Kidwelly and beyond. The lady in the gift shop was very helpful, friendly, and informative. Also met a lovely black and white, tailless cat, in the car park, who followed us into the castle.

Near to Carmarthen in south Wales this is one of four castles you could visit in a day that are close to each other (pembroke/carew and manobrier are the others. I would not say this is a 'pretty castle' as someone else described it ,it is what it was ment to be , a brutal stronghold It has a fantastic... More

Located at Kidwelly south of Carmarthen in South Wales The castle is a ruin, but has plenty of walls and structure left to understand its strength and importance as a castle. sited next to the river which at one time would have been its main communication with the outside world, roads were just mud tracks then with lots of pot... One of the best preserved castles in Wales that is easily accessible. Today I was showing a guest from France around, and was pleased to show them that the Norman castle had withstood 900 years of Welsh weather. They certainly knew how to build things to last. Lots to see here and a great place to visit.

Kidwelly's coat of arms includes a black cat, and lo and behold if we weren't welcomed to the castle by a friendly black cat (with white socks and half a tail). Quite a fitting start to our castle exploration. The castle is a ruined castle, yet still largely intact, and there is good access to the ramparts and one of... More
