I am glad to see how Carmarthen castle has become open to the public in the 21st century. As a child I always used to wonder what it was like inside. Purchased an excellent authoritative book by Neil Ludlow whilst there and the lady working there was enthusiastic and helpful.

found this interesting little castle at the top of carmarthen town centre. it's actually all that remains of a somewhat more substantial structure that was destroyed in the past. There is a little museum and and shop packed with info about the local area. great views from the gatehouse battlements. All this and free entry!.

On my way to this castle I was very apehensive as I am not one for looking round old stuff. However I spent 2 hours walking round and enjoyed every minute. Would fully recommend a visit. The £6.85 to enter is very good value as you can leave and re enter as many times as you wish up until 5pm.the... More

What a delight. I spent about an hour visiting the old police station and met a lovely lady called Merlin who could not have been more helpful. She told me all about the castle and its history as well as giving me lots of helpful information on everything in the surrounding area. She also gave me two town walks which... More

Right smack dab in the center of downtown Carmarthen, the castle doesn't take long to see. Considering the age it is mainly ruins but has been well preserved since Camarthen is the oldest town in Wales, built in 75AD. You are still able to get some great views of the town by climbing around the castle. Worth a quick stop!

You will not have to spend long here to get a feel for the castle as there is not much left of the ruins but it is an interesting place nonetheless. You will have great views, pop in if you're in the town centre!

I love this caslte. There are only bit's of it left but the view's are still amazing. Once you know the history of it...Well it becomes a favorite castle. It's all down to the location & being the easiest place to cross the river. Thousands of year's ago the Celts had an extensive trade network from Carmarthen. The roman's were here... More

Found the castle while looking for the tourist information, has lots of interactive boards for the children to listen to and press, the views from the castle are good and the castle ruins are interesting to walk round and admission is free.

The remains of the castle are free for the public to wander round, although they are restricted by the County Hall building built within the walls. There are notice boards giving information about castle life

We had a leaflet and two maps but gave up the search after driving around for nearly two hours. There are NO signs to the castle anywhere around Carmarthen! - not good for visitors
