Popped in after a business meeting. Did the whole tour in 10 minutes, there's very little left of the castle and if your expecting a beautiful classic Welsh castle you will be very disappointed. That said its free and there are free guided tours

Very little remaining since Cromwell slighted it. Mostly remains of a gatehouse (believe the pavement in front of this, which is of a cream paving stone, reflects the path of the old drawbridge..also heard that there are caverns underneath??).Old police cells behind gatehouse and an area which contains an old gallows, however, public hangings took place in the car park... Expected more from what we heard but compared to other castle we have been to it was disappointing. Perhaps we should have spent more time there

I am glad to see how Carmarthen castle has become open to the public in the 21st century. As a child I always used to wonder what it was like inside. Purchased an excellent authoritative book by Neil Ludlow whilst there and the lady working there was enthusiastic and helpful.

found this interesting little castle at the top of carmarthen town centre. it's actually all that remains of a somewhat more substantial structure that was destroyed in the past. There is a little museum and and shop packed with info about the local area. great views from the gatehouse battlements. All this and free entry!.

On my way to this castle I was very apehensive as I am not one for looking round old stuff. However I spent 2 hours walking round and enjoyed every minute. Would fully recommend a visit. The £6.85 to enter is very good value as you can leave and re enter as many times as you wish up until 5pm.the... More
