Just adore this area. Tally Abbey is both dramatic and forlorn with enough of the ruins surviving to hint at the fantastic construction it once was. Nestled next to the Abbey is Talley Parish Church of St.Michael, a delightful white (limed?) church. A key is available for access inside the church but I have not yet availed myself of this... Saw a little signpost for Tally Abby so detoured from our journey to check it out. Tucked away from the road in a tiny village is a beautiful ruin of part of an old abby. The views around it are stunning. It's a shame that there is not any information boards explaining how this became a ruin, but it was... More

A ruined Abbey with lakes. Parking restricted and appears to be a dog walking area where owners do not clean up after their pets

If you are a keen photographer then, Tally (NOT Talley!) and the surrounding areas is a must place to visit for anyone interested in history About a half hour journey by car from the country town of Llandeilo, this place is as peaceful as it is beautiful. I have attached two photographs of the Abbey plus one of the adjacent... More

Decided to visit the abbey to show a friend the area A great location but a shame the church was locked A notice on the church door said to knock in the house opposite for the key When a women answered the door and I asked very politely for the key she barked who are you and what do you... More

Love the abbey, but it would be really nice to have more information available at the abbey itself - perhaps also a sketch of how it looked in its glory.

If you like your historical ruins to have atmosphere then Talley Abbey is a must visit. On an autumn day the lake ( that was the former fish pond for the monks ) could transport you Avalon. See Wikepedia for more information.

The only Premonstraterian Abbey in Wales. Just a ruin but pleasant, pretty site on a nice day; next to church and Talley Lakes [wildlife sanctuary]. Access by steps only. Small parking area by gate. King Richard allegedly stayed in a house nearby. Bring your own refreshments as nearest cafe 8 miles away! Public toilets nearby. Good off-road woodland walk on... More

Note it is called Talley Abbey (not Tally Abbey)! The site is open and charming. I like to sketch and paint and this was a perfect spot. There are no information boards, so if you want to know the history come prepared. We came on a Sunday morning as the the service in the next door church was ending. So... More
