This place is relatively small but very well preserved because it was covered by vegetation. The main temple is just amazing and just to see its facade worth the trip. From the top you will enjoy a marvelous view. It's about two hours from Cancun and it may be visited in just one day to have a different experience. After... More

We did Coba, Tulum, Chichen Itza and here, during the week we were in the region. Coba was our favorite, but this was a close second. Being able to climb the biggest structure was a treat. The sculptures under the palapa roofs half way up were also pretty cool.

As the other reviews mention this ruin is not the tallest or the biggest but it has a lot of features which make it an excellent day trip. Firstly you can climb to the top of the tallest structure. The view is excellent and reconfirms how flat the Yucatan is. The carvings part way up are very interesting. The grounds... More

This is one of the most amazing places I've ever been to see ancient ruins. You can actually climb onto the temples and up into the rooms!! Apparently an ancient college, Ek Blam has 3 buildings excavated and many more to come. It is natural, without much in the way of walking paths, and the steep 113 step climb to... More

Combined this a trip to Rio Lasgardas. The site is relatively small and there is no evidence that excavating/ restoration is continuing. Our guide was good and climbing to the highest point is definitely worthwhile. The 'staging' of the main feature under tHe the palapa style roofing diminished the experience and part had the appearance of having been sandblasted to... More

We stayed in Valladolid for the purpose of day-tripping to Chichen Itza. We heard about Ek Balam from some other travelers we met and we are so lucky we did! Much more impressive than Ruinas de Tulum and more exciting because you can scramble around on the structures. There is also plenty of shade, making this a better option for... More

We stopped at Ek Balam on the way to Chichen Itza. I am so glad we did. I felt like Indiana Jones as we climbed up the giant pyramids and looked over the jungle canopy seeing temples poking out across the horizon. Chichen Itza is amazing in its own accord, but I actually liked Ek Balam more because you could... More

We traveled about 2 hours to get to Ek Balam from where we were staying in Akumal. The trip is not difficult- there is good signage... you do just have to watch going through the couple of "round abouts". Ek Belam is small in comparison to Tulum but the Acropolis- the tallest structure is amazing and you are able to... More

Loved this newly found ruins. Very little people as it was not found until 20 yrs ago. Smaller then the others but just as inpressive. We hired a tour guide, (actually he was an archeologist that helped with the discovery or this site) for 10.00 per person and it was well worth it. We highly recommend it. Very hot away... More
