I walked the Mahan ridge trail with my son starting at the beach and ending at the Aboretum. The walk took 5 hours but there is a bus from the Kapalua Resort to the top so you only have to walk downhill. The trail at the top can be muddy after some rain so be prepared. We walked tryout 8... More

This is a hikers trail, meaning it is not just a stroll. I started it at DB Beach, and my phone calculated it at 7 miles one way, and most of it was uphill. Fortunately for me, I like to hike uphill! It was raining the day I went, making the trail muddy, swampy and slippery. I didn't run into... More

Such a simple trail, but oh the many ecosystems you'll pass through! Jungle, red rock, old pineapple plantation, pine forest, ocean views, gorge views, it has it all. Be sure to manage the logistics of the shuttle (if you don't climb up and back.) Reservations are required for either direction.

Wasn't sure what were going to experience. Picked up the free shuttle at the hotel and was transported in comfort to the upper trailhead and then hiked back to the hotel. Beautiful views of great tropical plants and forest along with great views of the ocean. This was a great hike. Lots of variation along the way. The only issue... More

We did the full hike twice in the last 2 weeks. Both times we parked at DT Flemming beach at 0730 and entered the trail to the left of the green church/preschool. We went at a pretty good pace and did it in 1 hour 45 minutes. The signs are easy to navigate. Follow the Mahana Ridge Trail signs for... More

Here is how we hike this trail. We take the free Kapalua Shuttle to the Arboretum. The Mahana Ridge Trail then becomes a 7 mile hike, all gradually downhill. The shuttle leaves the Kapalua Village Center at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30. If you take the 1:30 shuttle, you must walk all the way down. There is also a Maunalei Arboretum trail... More

We started at the parking lot by the end of Lower Honoapiilani Road and made our way down to DT Fleming Beach and the trailhead is just past the parking lot by the preschool. We thought the path was very nice to hike on - very few big roots to navigate. Some steep parts but nothing too strenuous. The views... More

So here is the real deal! After reading many reviews finding this trail was difficult and it shouldn't be. So this is the easy way. Drive past Kapalua on the highway. Turn left just past the resort where it says DT Fleming beach. This is a public park with free parking. Nice beach there too. Park here. Walk toward the... More

We hiked up from the Kapalua Village Center in the morning. For someone who is in decent physical shape, the trail is by no means difficult. However, a good portion of the trail is either overgrown (pants may not be a bad idea), or very muddy (your shoes will be dirty). It hadn't rained the past few days either. The... More

Those reviewers describing this trail as a bush whacking expedition likely took too many wrong turns. I ran up this trail at 5am with a flashlight and had no navigation problems at all. Leaving Kapalua it is best to follow the old golf track under the highway and then turn left on the trail. Everything is well signed...at least I... More
