Great hike with the up vs down ratio of about 1:6. Hike to top for about 1 mile then down for most of the remainder. Keeps any complaining to a minimum! Convenient bus ride to... read more

Great hike with the up vs down ratio of about 1:6. Hike to top for about 1 mile then down for most of the remainder. Keeps any complaining to a minimum! Convenient bus ride to top of the property but be sure to make a reservation for free shuttle through resort (they did not tell us this was required when... More

Our family of four inexperienced hikers had a great time on this hike. Most of the trail was shaded so the heat wasn't unbearable even for our July visit. The views were great and I loved seeing new things the whole time we were out (including pineapple plants!). We were challenged but truly enjoyed our experience. We didn't cross paths... More

If you want an adventure and are up for the cardio than this is your hike. I had no idea what this hike was because I stumbled onto it. I just started jogging where I could and then hiked the more vertical terrain. At first it's a bit exposed, but as you get higher it turns into that classic Jurassic... More

I believe that this trail is the one that turns right past the daycare and goes up past the plantation golf course. the vegetation seems to change every 250 yards from hot desert to jungle to open views. It was very interesting to see this as it is so different from our home. we did not make it all the... More

I walked the Mahan ridge trail with my son starting at the beach and ending at the Aboretum. The walk took 5 hours but there is a bus from the Kapalua Resort to the top so you only have to walk downhill. The trail at the top can be muddy after some rain so be prepared. We walked tryout 8... More

This is a hikers trail, meaning it is not just a stroll. I started it at DB Beach, and my phone calculated it at 7 miles one way, and most of it was uphill. Fortunately for me, I like to hike uphill! It was raining the day I went, making the trail muddy, swampy and slippery. I didn't run into... More

Such a simple trail, but oh the many ecosystems you'll pass through! Jungle, red rock, old pineapple plantation, pine forest, ocean views, gorge views, it has it all. Be sure to manage the logistics of the shuttle (if you don't climb up and back.) Reservations are required for either direction.

Wasn't sure what were going to experience. Picked up the free shuttle at the hotel and was transported in comfort to the upper trailhead and then hiked back to the hotel. Beautiful views of great tropical plants and forest along with great views of the ocean. This was a great hike. Lots of variation along the way. The only issue... More

We did the full hike twice in the last 2 weeks. Both times we parked at DT Flemming beach at 0730 and entered the trail to the left of the green church/preschool. We went at a pretty good pace and did it in 1 hour 45 minutes. The signs are easy to navigate. Follow the Mahana Ridge Trail signs for... More

Here is how we hike this trail. We take the free Kapalua Shuttle to the Arboretum. The Mahana Ridge Trail then becomes a 7 mile hike, all gradually downhill. The shuttle leaves the Kapalua Village Center at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30. If you take the 1:30 shuttle, you must walk all the way down. There is also a Maunalei Arboretum trail... More
