A quiet, beautifully maintained site that makes one think about the futility and waste of war as one contemplates the graves of those who died trying to hold onto the country they had invaded.

While we were at the American Cemetery at Normandy, some French people mentioned to us that we ought to see the German Cemetery also. We were taken aback that anyone French would suggest that, given the damage to the French in WWII during the German occupation. However, we went and were glad we did. There are no guards or gates...
