A lot of driving in a coach from varadero, but the overnight stay at topes de collantes and a 5k hike the next morning made it worthwhile. The spectacular el rocio waterfall and a swim in a lake made it a great trip.

My boyfriend and I did the Sendero Caburní. The walk itself is not the most interesting. We saw a few lizards and a colourful caterpillar but aside from the views of the surrounding area, the path is nothing special. However, the pool with the small waterfall at the end is absolutely gorgeous. So much more beautiful than in the photos... More

This beautiful National Park has several walks, the most popular being Salto del Caburni which leads to a cool natural pool with a waterfall and small fishies. It's a very easy one, around 2 hs walking round trip or less if you are fit. I really loved the natural pool. You really don't need a guide for this one (seriously,... More

Just over 10 miles away from Trinidad city, Topes de Collantes resort sits on top of a mountain summit. The opportunities for nature amateurs are limitless: enjoy some of their very well established trails (Guanayara, El Nicho) and have lunch at a local farm where typical Cuban food reaches its peak.

We drove ourselves up the mountain in our rental car, passing an old Russian truck with a load of tourists. In the reception there is a map, but the map from the information office in town was much better, but also outdated. We decided on two tours, which both turned out much shorter than the advise on the map. The... More

A gorgeous valley. We made a walk down to the valley and to a swim (freezing, but very nice). Then made the trip back up. We wished we could take a dive again. Just go there, you will love it.

We went to this place in the back of a "Russian truck" which was very exhilarating to say the least. The views from the open truck were amazing and sometimes a bit scary. Anyhow we arrived and set off on a long walk and finally came to a lovely swimming hole where the water was about 18 degrees Celsius. Once... More

To escape the hustle and bustle of the town, we made a day trip to Topes de Collantes. We took a taxi to the Mirador del Caribe, 10km out of town and then walked 500m back downhill to the trailhead. The mirador gives a wonderful view and when we were there it was full of hummingbirds and orioles feeding on... More

We explored this park as part of an overnight 3 city tour from Varadero. This beautiful park was a highlight. The trails were easy for even the older ones in the group, even the Rambo walk down the river was very do-able. One lady had a very swollen foot from the day before, and she even managed the river hike.... More
