I have come to St John and rode on trails with Dana three times. I've minimal experience with horses, and she is always extremely helpful and considerate of the past experience of the rider. She has always taught me new things each time, and if you want to learn, here is where to do it. Depending on weather and trail... More

Was our first time ever horseback riding. Friends of the owner led the tour and were very professional and nice to us in explaining how to "drive" the horse. Much easier than we expected. Horses we got were very docile and calm. We didn’t experience any of the negative comments previously posted (although some were helpful to set our expectations... More

My grandson went for his first horseback ride at Carolina Corral. He was 11 years old. Dana encouraged him to feel confident and calm without babying him. He begged us to let him return. He was more than happy to just help out and feed the animals, etc. His level of comfort had everything to do with Dana' s calm... More

What can I say to add to this? Right on with what I'm trying to do and would like to do more of as in introducing the animals within the schools and offering lessons year round. At the same time actively seeking means in which to promote this endeavor. It's alot to keep up with as any business owner knows,... More

Dana, the owner of the Carolina Corral, showed us a nice time on our visit to St. John. My wife wanted to try horse back riding, and this was a first time experience for my teenage son. I let Dana know that we were not experienced riders, and she chose three gentle (perhaps even too slow!) horses for our ride.... More

I have no problem with beginner riders as stated in this review. They only need listen and try what I suggest in order to get the horse to respond. Sometimes, like with anybody, the horse make be slow to act this is where a little more encouragement is needed with a little more leg needed or shorter reins to get... More

Dana was a breath of fresh air, she's talks with her riders to find out where there abilities lie. Then she matches up her horses to the rider. I have ridden in Utah in the mountains but this was different. It was more adventurous. And the view when you get to where your going is absolutely awesome!! Im a bigger... More

David, like many other folks, enjoys time spent on a horse taking in the surroundings of a new place. Riding is overall relaxing with enough of a challenge to keep the mind active and aware of everything from the perfect views of our neighboring islands to the calls of our many birds. Soon we'll be riding where we can pick... More

If you want to do a horse ride or wagon ride this is the only place on the island to do it. It's just a small outlet, so don't expect a well-oiled machine, but expect a friendly proprietor who knows her stuff.

Interesting title for this review for their is surely no one else who has taken it upon themselves to own and manage horses for public use. I was positive I would soon have competition when I first started doing pictures and rides with donkeys on St. John in 1993 because visitors liked them so much and they were easy to... More

Carolina Corral is a beloved "must" for my daughters every time we are on the island, and some of their best memories are from there. If your riding experience has been in an expensive suburban stable surrounded by lush paddocks, this will be a change for you. This part of the island is dry and the stable facilities are very... As stated above my maingoal is to take in horses who need homes putting them to work earning their own living. I like working for myself and having come froma rural background, both grandfathers had been farmers, this seemed a perfect fit. Also horseback riding was something not previously offered on the island in a structured manner. The last person... More

As a refular visator to STJ, this was my first experia ce with Carolina Coral. I had a wonderful time. I know the island well and got what I expected. This is a local island, not a controlled sterile environment dreamed up by a Fantasy Resort Island magazine. Because of my long term relationship with the island and Coral Bay... More

Heh there rider, I appreciate the all encompassing review of what I'm trying to do. All the animals I have were either born here or imported from like my mustang who's former owner spent nearly $15, 000 on her before losing interest within a year. I try my best to provide them with the best care and help them earn... More

I have been riding since I was a teenager, and although it has been 3 years or so since the last time this was far from what I was used to. The trail up the hill was very steep and rocky, and twisted and turned through trees. The way down was also very steep and rocky and the beach we... More

I offer two different rides now that I've read my rides were "too boring" for experienced riders. My easier ride is still up a wide dirt road to a great view of St. John's east end and back down the same route. It is a bit rocky, but I've been using riding this hill for over 20 years without a... The last review proves you can't believe everything you read. Dana's instruction to the riders must have seemed like "yelling" to the inexperienced rider. Safety seemed to be her main concern and I of I know from having my own animals you sometimes have to be firm to maintain control of them. She never raised her voice with us and... More

I had a great ride with these folks and I hope they make us a part of their next vacation! Eventually I'd like to reopen my oldest ride which got washed out in heavy rains in '10 along with many of the island's roads. Some houses have compromised footings, too now with one lady being advised "not to be in... More
