We had great fun in Kandersteg. Stayed 3 nights in winter. We are not skiers but really enjoyed a range of winter activities including curling, hiking and sledging down the mountain. Highly recommend a visit to Kandersteg.

We 'winter' hiked from Sunnbuel to the Gemmipass and back again on Christmas day in glorious sunshine. It was also the first day of the season for the Sunnbuel cable car. The whole path was well 'pisted' and signed (purple coloured poles and some signs). There was no need for snowshoes or other footwear apart from good winter hiking boots.... More

This is a delightful walk taken by both Mark Twain and Whymper. To avoid the rigors of the initial climb and steep descent that faced the merchants travelling from the Valais to the Bernese Oberland or vice versa, there are in place two cable cars that take you from the villages of Kandersteg or Leukerbad to the actual trail. Half... More

This hike at the top of a tram was stupendous, wonderful fall colors and peaceful meadows. The high Daubensee was worth the effort at the foot of Gemmi Pass, and it would be great to arrange a stay at the high hotels.

It is a fantastic hike Leukerbad to Sunnbüe/Kandersteg - around the Daubensee, some quiet areas that are truly scenic. I would prefer doing Leukerbad to Kandersteg simply because it is quite a hike up the other way!

We chose to hike to Gemmi Pass from Kandersteg. It's a 30 minute walk from the railway station to the cableway to Sunnbuhl. The gondola ride is about 25 minutes and it takes you to the Sunnbuhl valley where it is an easy five mile walk to Gemmi Pass. The views from the pass are worth the hike. As an... More

Great day hike not far from the hotel. We hiked into the pass, spent the afternoon lounging and lunching near a small pond that was beautiful. One of the easiest hikes we did in Switzerland.

Nice hike from Sunnbuel to the pass, and an enjoyable lunch at the self serve restaurant overlooking the Gemmi wall. Great views, reasonably priced food. And, we "looped it", by taking the cable car down to Leukerbad, followed by a bus trip back to Kandersteg. A pleasant day!

Long uphill start / lovely cake at hotel halfway. Cloudy at pass so didn't see Matterhorn but others earlier in week had. Good return walk back - great views. Very clear paths

Take the cable car and spend a special time walking. I have been there many times and I love the place so much. Shear beauty.
