This was a lovely trip and as our weather was sunny and bright all the autumn colours were stunning it could not have been a better time of year to experience such wonderful scenery
Used Simplon pass in August on the way to and from Italy instead of Mont Blanc tunnel. Although the narrower road, and the works, it is worth every km. Sunrise on the way, breathtaking views of Valais on the way back. Would be nice to pass riding a moto
Just a few minutes from Brig on the train and we were in a little known part of Northern Italy. Historic as all Italian towns are and with the option of exploring the valley of a thousand valleys. A few miles away in Domodossola we were able to enjoy a beer in one of the bars in a square at... More
The views are truly spectacular , we drove through it at night , and the following day. Breathtaking !

This drive is Swiss engineering at its finest. The views are spectacular. Don't take the train car ferry when you can drive!
If you want to test your nerves, opt to go for the drive to Italy from Switzerland rather than taking the train. At night, it's even more hair raising; during the day, the views are spectacular!
Clean and fresh air, service in the cafe superb. Would be an ideal starting point for some mountain exploration on skis!
This is one of the few ways to drive between Italy & Switzerland or France & Italy or Switzerland, or Austria. And it is about the only "free" way. The road crosses between Switzerland's Rhone Valley/Valais region into Italy above Lake Maggiore, north of Milan (& Turin). It is a good road & open a good portion of the year.... More
