Great old sandstone castle

We visited with friends and happened to arrive on a Renaissance Fair day. Great attractions and lots of fun.

I have visited this castle several times, and it is absolutely stunning. Sitting in a prominent area of the town overlooking the river, it is probably the 'must see' attraction in Aschaffenburg.

When we were here, it was very hot and there was no airconditioning whatsoever in this building. We went through it rather quickly. Some of the displayed items were rather interesting, but not all of them. I would not go back, unless there is something worth seeing on display.

I love the schloB in Aschaffenburg. The restaurant in excellent the wine top notch. But the castle originally for a bishop and destroyed in WWII and rebuilt to detail even an butt in the wall well its just amazing. The inside museum with perodic clothes and do not open the drapes the sun will damage the dresses. Huge restored castle with large collection of ancient as well as modern art. They also have an expansive collection of models/replicas of the coliseum and other historic ruins etc...

The castle mainly hosts an excellent series of exhibitions rather than being a representation of castle life. Some rooms in the castle seem a little sterile and modern. The castle is large so there is a lot of walking. Very good but not quite what we expected.

I was on a trip in ashaffenburg and I visited the castle and it had a pub there also. They sell good wines there! The beer is good and cold. It's a great spot to spend some time walking trough and around the castle. It's i great shape but I didn't find my way inside to the castle.?!

The Schloss Johannisburg mit Schlossanlagen in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany is great church castle in a small town. As I was station here during the cold war years is was nice to come back for a short stay.

Its was simply a bit shocking to see this beautiful church/castle. It has a nice view around and a rive (dirty though) runs close to it. A nice park to walk around and have a good evening in Aschaffenburg.

This castle is a treasure. Because it was a church castle it is a little different from the more frequently found barony castles. It is huge and spectacular in scope and contains some excellent art work. We enjoyed the views from outside and walking and eating in the area.
