I visited this beautiful castle grounds on a sort of last-minute decision having already passed by the city of Aschaffenburg on the A3 motorway a couple of times. It's colourful history (was rebuilt from ruins twice) made a deep impression on me. At the time of my visit it was hosting besides its pernament exhibition an exhibition on cork models... More

This castle/museum will be best appreciated by visitors with some interest in German history, but the art collection has some worthwhile pieces as well. One unique display contains a collection of scale models representing famous Roman ruins -- the detail on the models is impressive; it's unique partly because the models were carved from cork! There aren't many displays that... More

Such a beautiful castle and grounds. Near the castle is also an exhibit that has artifacts from Pompeii, a little odd to see it this far from Italy but interesting. I would set aside 4 hours or so, to tour the grounds and surrounding area. For a great photo, go on the other side of the river, park at the... More

its simply beautiful - beautiful restored - the whole setting just prefect - often there are concerts in the courtyard as well as the famous schlossfest - the wine bar - also located inside the courtyard is very typical for the region - try one of the franconian wines - they remind me of wines from the san gimignano area... Aschaffenburg is one of the best kept secrets for a historical town close to Frankfurt. The castle is an excellent example of Rennaissance architecture. Absolutely worth a visit. A park adjacent to the castle is also breathtaking with an replica of a villa in Pompei, Italy.

Very impressive castle which dominates the landscape of Aschaffenburg. It was badly damaged in WWll but now fully restored. A visit to the lovely gardens with beautiful views of the river Maine is a must. Inside the castle there are museums, restaurant and exhibitions and the entry fee is very reasonable. Well worth a visit.

Really nice building by the river, but inside there is not much to see. Some old furniture placed here and there, but not exactly what you would expect in a castle. The municipality of Aschaffenburg could do more to attract tourists in the area.

The restored building itself is an attraction. So close to Frankfurt and with so many different exhibits. Old Masters like Van Dyke, Rembrandt, Rubens, etc. I'm a Lucas Cranach fan and I had the rare chance to enjoy so many of his paintings in one morning. Tha Palace has also modern art like Christian Schad's works, neoclassical furnishings, ecclesiastical vestments,... More
