As most reviews suggest, Hohenzollern looks like what you'd expect of a fairy-tale castle. It has a commanding location, on a hill high above the surrounding villages and countryside. It is NOT an ancient castle--the current one built in the mid-1800s. It was built as a showcase, not a defensive castle. For what you see, compared to other European castles,... More

My Favorite place in the world! I have found this castle to be not very well known to Americans and I take my friends there whenever in Germany. The ancestral seat of the German Royal Family (last name Hohenzollern), it is still privately owned by the family (2/3 Brandenberg line and 1/3 the Schwabian line). A must see if in... More

This was the first place my friend took me to when we left the airport, so I was jet-lagged and not as prepared to fully appreciate what I was seeing. After we climbed the hill, we arrived at a smallish (by German standards!) Christmas market; I was cautious about purchasing, as it was my first day in the country, and... More

The views of Burg Hohenzollern on top of the hill as you approach it from the countryside are special and can be seen from very far away. The views of the countryside from the ramparts are also amazing. Very uncrowded, we took a fairly long side trip to visit and were not disappointed.

The approach to the castle is one of the highlights as you spot the spires perched high above the valley from far away. It would be a fun but steep hike from the parking lot, but we took the shuttle as it was snowing. Up close there is a greater feeling of the fortress, and the views are wonderful. We... More

Amazing view of the landscape from the Castle. However, the tour inside just offers the possibility to see 5-6 rooms finely furnished and the treasury room.

Traveling with family, 4 adults and 6 kids kids ranging from 4-16, everyone loved visiting Hohenzollern. The view as you approach is amazing, and once up at the castle you can see to France and Switzerland! Took an English language tour, very interesting history and beautiful interiors. Don't miss if in the area.

I´ve been visiting the Castle in Hohenzollern many times to enjoy a relaxing walk in the green and the stunning view. The building is still in good shape and the management propose different events, the Xmas market is also very interesting especially with some snow.

I've been told this castle has a can't miss view of the countryside, but I would not know firsthand because we went during a snowstorm and we could not see more than a few yards ahead of us. But I could see the castle and it was surreally beautiful. It rose up out of the falling snow like an icy... More

I went in november...only one bus was leaving the hechingen train station daily to the castle and this was at 11:25am. Cost for bus was about 2€. The bus takes about 20 minutes and brings you 3/4 way up the hill to a parking lot. In the parking lot a shuttle bus was waiting. Cost for shuttle was 3€ for... More
