The day we went to the New Residence, there was not an English tour available though we were told there would be. Instead we went with a tour in German, and were given information sheets to read. The information sheets weren't that interesting, but it was still neat to see this palace. Luckily, there was a fellow tourist who translated... More

I was not impressed with the New Residence itself, but the rose and box wood garden attached is worth the visit. Beautiful setting in the garden overlooking Bamberg. Very quiet and calm place to relax. Great place to take photos of your traveling companions. Concessions available in the garden. Hint: there is a short moderate paved climb from the Church... More

This tour was 4.50E/person and was fairly short (15 minutes). The tour is in German, but they do offer English brochures to let you follow along while walk through the rooms. In April 2013, there was significant construction in the area and scaffolding along the entire length of the facade facing the nearby church.

Entrance is currently 4.5 Euros which represents outstanding value (note - access to the Rose garden is free). The exhibition consists of two parts - German art from the 15th-16th Century and the royal residence of Bavarian royalty. Note - your ticket gives you entry and the guides suggest that you visit the paintings first and when a tour is... More

There is a nice little tour you can take of the Neue Residenz that walks you through the two "apartments" where royalty and Pope's roomed while in Bamberg. The rooms have beautiful paintings, tapestries, and furniture. The tour is really cheap and if you have the Bayern Castle Pass it is free with your card :)

A must visit on a Bamberg trip. Don't be greedy and spend the small entrance fee. The interior is great with a lot of original paintings. After visiting the neue Residenz, don't forget to go to thr rose garden with a stunning view of the City

I've seen a fair number of castles and residences, but this one blew the others out of the water (even the interior of Neuschwanstein, in my opinion). Very little of Bamberg was destroyed in the war, so most everything in the new residence is original! The paintings, furnishings, and wood floors are just beautiful. We lucked out and got a... More

However, this tour is quite inexpensive and of very good quality. If you understand German, it's a great chance to practice, and to chat with other visitors (at least, if you go with my guide, who was very informative and very, very friendly: she got everyone chatting.) There are also extensive written guides in English, etc. for those who don't... More

Shows additions of each prince bishop and how they lived the life in the 14th and 18th Century. The tour is easy paced and its the place for the bathroom stop. Have your .50 Euro as this is one of the few places where you need money to pee.

I love that all over Europe, the houses of the rich and elite from centuries ago are now pubic buildings and museums for everyone to share! :) The Neue Residenz, houses a library, museum, some government offices, and is a good place for newcomers to Bamberg to start, along with the Dom Cathedral across its courtyard, and its Rose Garden...
