Very interesting and good value for money. Unfortunately the tour guide did not speak much English but there were printed information sheets for every room.

We were at the door when they opened at 9 ready for the tour which started at 915. we were the only 2 in the tour so she gave the tour in english which I guess is not the norm and what a lovely place took about 40 minutes and was very informative and pictures are permitted without the flash.

While we are not huge fans of visiting palaces as they all seem to look a bit the same, we appreciated the patience of the tour guide who delivered the tour in both German and English to accommodate my boyfriend.

You can only visit this place with a guide. What annoys me though is that even the guide could speak English, and in our group there were four English speakers vs. two German tourists, our guide wouldn't speak English at all. English speaking tourists were given a handout with very minimum explanations, and I couldn't help but feel jealous about... More

This is one of the places where you have to follow a guide to get inside. Unlike other places we've been to, the guide does not speak much English so we couldn't ask any questions. The palace itself is very interesting.

The tour of the Residenz is quite short and in German. Only a few rooms are available and contain fine furniture, paintings and tapestries. While the rooms are very grand, they are not outstanding. This is not really a priority attraction for visitors.

This is really a palace, and it has much of the furniture, as well as gorgeous chandeliers and painted ceilings in very grand rooms. Entrance to the Residenz includes a guided tour, they are available in German and in English, and are small groups, so there is an opportunity to ask questions. The tour doesn't visit all the rooms, so... More

But no English tour. It definitely seems very interesting, but the printed English guides are not doing it justice. The rose garden at the back is nice and the views of the city are lovely. The big plus is the old city itself, it is just gorgeous, with lots of interesting places and old buildings.

Only way to see the inside of this place is to go on a guided tour. No English tour unless you're on a reserved group tour, but they provide written English guides for three wings of Neue Residenz. Tours are provided every 10-15 minutes. German speakers seemed to have a very good reaction to the guide's explanation. Compare to some... More

I have visited a lot of European cities and have looked around various Residencies. The one in Bamberg was pretty but nothing particularly special. You had to have a guided tour but it wasn't as informative as it could have been. I would advise going through to the rose garden behind the Residenz rather than going in it.
