The perspective created by this palace of the bishop together with the old palace and the cathedral is really unique in southern Germany. The view of the new old and new town from the rose garden is really worth a walk uphill from the river. What is probably not as much interesting is the inside of the palace, which can... More

I was amazed at how large this was, especially after seeing the palaces in Vienna. The gardens are fantastic

We pre arranged an English tour, 4 Euro/person. A nice history and walking tour were provided. This included entry into the new residenz and church; beautiful and not to be missed when visiting Bamberg.

Neue Residenz an incomplete complex styled after Versailles, the Neue Residence has only 2 of 3 planned wings completed. It contains museums and a library study center not available to the public.

What's not to like about the Domplatz! With its majestic square bordered by cathedral, alte hofhaltung and the so called centuries old New (Bishops) Residence this is one of the most startling architectural sites in Europe, set high above town and river. A still undiscovered gem and a place less touristed.

The first and second floor of the impressive building on Domplatz house some fantastic rooms from the State Apartments. See the Imperial Hall and the Bishop's Throne Room. Guide speaks German and there are English handouts for each area. Very helpful staff. Will be cold in winter as the building is unheated. Don't miss it.

The New Residence building complex has over 40 state rooms with stucco ceilings, and furniture and tapestries from the 17th and 18th centuries.  Construction work started on the New Residence in1604 on Cathedral Square. On the walls of the Imperial Hall, you will see life-size portraits of emperors.  Until 1802 the New Residence served as the seat of Bamberg's prince... More

We were there yesterday & took a tour. I did know that the tour was only conducted in German, but we went anyway to see the apartments, the rooms are lovely. There is ongoing restoration & I enjoyed seeing it. There was an English description of the rooms & some history, but the nuances are lost on the non-german speakers.... More

A beautiful Residence in Bamburg Bavaria. Well worth the stop and climb. The gardens are fantastic specially if you arrive in time for the roses. There are over 10,000 species of roses in bloom during late spring and summer

Now I had already done the research and knew going in that typically the tours of the Neue Residnz are only done in German. So I did a little research so I could play translator/tour guide for us. But when we got there there was no one else to go on the tour and our guide told us she would... More
