I'm writing this from the point of view of one who has only the slightest bit of Deutsch. While not as magnificent as a nearby Residenz, in Wurzburg, the Neue Residenz in Bamberg impresses, particularly if you like baroque & rococo styles. But the tour is in German only (except for groups, pre-arranged). There are written handouts, but they are... More

There were some beautiful rooms in the palace. I don't speak German, but the tour guide did say a few words in English to make sure we understood the gist of what she was saying.

We had read about this place and that there were no tours in English. However, the concierge on our river cruise called to arrange a one hour English language tour and because there were 15 of us we got a discount of 3.5 euros. It was very interesting and worthwhile (although not as opulent as the palace in Wurzberg). Very... More

I concur with some of the earlier reviews that comment on the inconsistent way in which the tour guides here handle English-speaking tourists. I can speak and understand some German, so I can make it through a German tour, but others in our group did not speak German, and the guide, who did speak English, seemed to go out of... More

I have visited many palaces and this one is as all of them interesting, with some nice features, big rooms, but in the lesser half of the hundreds i have already visited

Very interesting and good value for money. Unfortunately the tour guide did not speak much English but there were printed information sheets for every room.

We were at the door when they opened at 9 ready for the tour which started at 915. we were the only 2 in the tour so she gave the tour in english which I guess is not the norm and what a lovely place took about 40 minutes and was very informative and pictures are permitted without the flash.

While we are not huge fans of visiting palaces as they all seem to look a bit the same, we appreciated the patience of the tour guide who delivered the tour in both German and English to accommodate my boyfriend.

You can only visit this place with a guide. What annoys me though is that even the guide could speak English, and in our group there were four English speakers vs. two German tourists, our guide wouldn't speak English at all. English speaking tourists were given a handout with very minimum explanations, and I couldn't help but feel jealous about... More

This is one of the places where you have to follow a guide to get inside. Unlike other places we've been to, the guide does not speak much English so we couldn't ask any questions. The palace itself is very interesting.
