Very impressive rooms

We took the guided tour (in German), and found it very impressive, with a very knowledgeable guide. A very good insight into the lifestyles of the rich and famous of the past.

We have a Bavaria castle pass, so when touring Bamberg, we decided to check out Neue Residenz. The sign at the cashier mentioned tours in English, so we figured it would be a good tour. Upon catching up with the tour group, we were pointed to English written guides. These written guides are pitiful!! The tour guide would speak for... More

If you have not been subjected to...I mean, experienced Rococo architecture, do not miss the Neue Residenz tour. If you are not in the least turned on by Rococo...and I mean, an abundance of the busyness, skip The Neue Residenz. The cost is minimal, the tour is lengthy and only in German (the Docent is knowledgeable and very friendly but... More

This is an impressive and very large building part of which is open to visit. Visits are guided and the tour was only in German though notes in other languages are available in each area. Lovely old décor, art and furniture and wall/ceiling paintings. Worth a visit.

If you don't speak German, then do not go for the tour. After having a discussion (in fluent english) with very arrogant german lady, that the tour is only in German, we decided to invest 4 EUR/person and we did go for it. For non-German speaking visitors they have a paper guides for each floor. Unfortunately the guide was sometimes... More

Takes an hour for the tour, impressive and decadent on the inside. It's not as extravagant as other palaces, but it's up in the top 5 I've seen in Germany.

We happened to visit when there weren't many other visitors. Part of our tour was just for the two of us. Our guide spoke English well and was really willing to answer our questions, to share her knowledge of the Residenz and her enthusiasm both for its history and its connections with Bamberg. We visited here just a few days... More

I'm writing this from the point of view of one who has only the slightest bit of Deutsch. While not as magnificent as a nearby Residenz, in Wurzburg, the Neue Residenz in Bamberg impresses, particularly if you like baroque & rococo styles. But the tour is in German only (except for groups, pre-arranged). There are written handouts, but they are... More

There were some beautiful rooms in the palace. I don't speak German, but the tour guide did say a few words in English to make sure we understood the gist of what she was saying.

We had read about this place and that there were no tours in English. However, the concierge on our river cruise called to arrange a one hour English language tour and because there were 15 of us we got a discount of 3.5 euros. It was very interesting and worthwhile (although not as opulent as the palace in Wurzberg). Very... More
