Enter the world of the Prince-Bishops of Bavaria in this 40+ state room palace. The two wings of the cathedral square were built by Johann Leonard Dientzenhofer in 1697-1703. The notable attractions are the Emperors Hall with it's 16 larger than life-sized portraits of Emperors, stucco work and frescos. The portraits were created by Melchoir Steidl. The Elector's room, Prince-Bishop... More

A special building with a special rose next to it! This special building is also a part of a special town. A visit to both is a must.

A condo for the local bishops in times past. The adjacent charming Rose Garden offers a restful view of the town as you sip some smoked Rauchbier.

A hood tour if you speak German, no English tours, could maybe do one a day considering the amount of non German speakers. Worth the moderate cost

We only had time to walk outside, but it was beautiful (and free) and worth a visit even if you are short on time. We wanted to go to the rose garden area instead, which was beautiful and had a great view of the monastery.

Unfortunately there is no way to visit it on your own, you must go with a group. Sometimes it is very bad, we don't like it. However what you can see here it is amazing. About 40 halls, including the "Kaisersaal", which is maybe too much decorated. But there are a lot of 17. and 18. century art works.

We hadread the reviews so we were expecting the visit to be a problem but boy oh boy it was bad !! The bad attitude starts from the moment you get your ticket and ask where to start and we were grunted at .There is no English guide only cards in English in the rooms .The guide could speak good... We went based upon reviews claiming the guided tour of the New Residence would be very manageable, while providing a view of beautiful Roccoco artifacts. Both were true, and we had a great time both on the tour and walking through the rose garden. Our guide spoke enough English to impart a good amount of about the history of the... More

There are plenty of palaces to visit in Bavaria, Germany and Europe, but many of them are huge with hundreds of rooms. This one is somewhat more modest in size and you don't have to be a super athlete in order to take the tour. Great architecture.

The very large palace of the Bamberg bishop princes now houses a library and a paintings Museum. But a fairly extensive portion of the spreading complex is open to guided tours(in German). While the furnishings are not original to the Palace, most of the tapestries, ceilings and decorations are. The Baroque style reigns and impresses
