This unique, fun eco-experience tour involves travel with local experienced guides by vintage tractors and trailers on a comfortable four-hour adventure to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. Departing on the days’ low tide, visitors travel by tractor and trailer along the majestically rugged coastline. Photographic opportunities abound as stops are made throughout the journey giving visitors an insight into how nature’s forces have shaped this amazing area. « less

A relaxing and fun filled tractor ride along several mile of beach towards the gannet bird colony. You get to sit on the back of a trailer and swing your feet off the side. You have a full, unobstructed view of the scenery, which is amazing and go at a slow enough pace to take it all in. You need... More

This tour was amazing! I admit I was hesitant about the price but it was totally worth it and my kids and I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it to others. We sat on a trailer towed by a tractor out to the cape and then took a short walk up to the gannet colony. My 2 oldest... More

I will admit to being biased, being trained as a biologist, but this tour was incredible. I keep notes on our trips and this tour alone took up 6 pages. Now before I describe the tour here's a hint - either bring your snack or lunch and water, or come early enough to buy sandwiches and cookies at the café... More

Hi John & Ann ... WOW, thanks for the absolutely wonderful review, I am very impressed that we took up 6 pages of your notes! If that doesn't help bring us more visitors I am not sure what will :-). Really pleased you enjoyed your visit with us, thanks so much for coming along and for taking the time to... More

Our tour was at 3pm and four seniors jumped on the tractor to head out to the Cape. Our driver was very experienced and knew the structure of the cliffs so was very informative. He was a superb tractor driver though getting stuck twice in the sand blew his reputation much to our amusement. The trip out was 1.5 hours... More

Thanks so much for your great review - I remember your group, so very pleased to see your feedback and hear that you and your visitors had an enjoyable time with us. The driver will probably say it was the "beach conditions" rather than his driving ability that got him stuck ... :-)) - all part of the fun! Hope... More

My husband and I took this tour while we were in Hawkes bay. I am so glad we did. We had a 7.30am tour, and while I don't love getting up early, it was such a beautiful time of day to be there. The scenery is amazing and makes you feel a million miles away from any every day stresses... More

Tour times are set according to the tides. Ours began at 7:30 AM. We had to check in at 7:00, so we were able to watch the sun come up over the cape. We travelled on the beach to Cape Kidnappers on 2 wagons towed by an antique tractor: a great way to see the cliffs. Our driver/guide was full... More

Thanks for your feedback - sorry you didn't get to see any birds fishing/diving, they often have to fly further out to feed. Many of the young gannets you saw exercising their wings have now left the colonies for their next adventure! Many thanks. Kind regards Kim More

The period house has been lovingly restored to the highest standards and is a delight to experience and appreciate. The bed and bath rooms have been fitted out, furnished and equipped to the highest standards. The setting, surrounded by well tended gardens and the fields of a kiwi fruit farm, is magnificent. The verandas and the gardens are idyllic places... More

Hi there - we love your photos but I think this review might be for your accommodation provider while you were in Hawke's Bay?! Perhaps the review you wrote for us is on their Trip Advisor page ... if you contact TA I think they will be able to swap them around for you. We would love to see what... More

This is an excellent outfit, well run with a great and simple idea. Classic old school tractors, local guides who know their stuff, spectacular scenery and thousands of gannets at the other end. Murray and Colin do much more than drive, and their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the job are clear to see. Can't recommend highly enough....!

My partner shouted me this experience for Christmas. We did it last weekend. It was fantastic! The weather was great and the ride on the tractor along the beach was a lot of fun. The drivers/guides certainly know their stuff and their humour helps make it interesting. The walk up the hill to the Gannets was a bit harder than... More

It was very fun, informative and unique experience to take a tractor ride across the beach to see Gannett Colony. Beautiful ride, entertaining and smart local staff. Murray was our driver, he was a character! Lots of geological education shared en route to colony. Very good value, I could not have imagined hiking in the heat and the road option... More
