This church is quite same as many other french churches in this area, except the height and amazing astronomical clock. Construction work went wrong incl. statical calculations of the building, so now you can see some pressure releasing construction in the building. The most important reason to visit this church is the amazing astronomical clock - still working.

What a gem for a tiny place. There lots of stained glass windows in this cathedral, not crowded and such beautiful architecture.

The guidebooks start by explaining it has fallen down twice already and judging by the wooden supports crisscrossing the nave and the cracks in the vaulted roof it's well on its way to number 3. The cathedral's claim to fame is the height, which you can really see and appreciate (though is the cause of the structural problems). The other... More

Beauvais Cathedral was intended to be taller than other cathedrals, but the ambitious planners also designed the flying buttresses to be thinner. All this combined with the high winds of the are made part of the structure to collapse. Still is the highest Gothic vault and is very impressive. Off the tourist track, we had the cathedral to ourselves, to... More

On our way to Paris we stopped by this cathedral and the free museum next to it. This was the most impressive church we saw in France. It should be more publicized, it's a pity it's not listed as one of the major attractions to see around Paris. We only saw it because our flight into Paris was through Beauvais.... More

The architecture of this church is amazing and the windows should not be missed. If you get there when the choir is practising even better.

The Cathedral is impressive by its sheer height. The main attraction, however, is the magnificent astronomical clock. It is a must to attend one of the explanatory show explaining the history and the workings of the clock and to see the mechanical figures in action. There are several 20 minute showings daily. If you don't follow French, they usually have... More

The 'cage de verre', the glass cage this building is called, and with good reason. A truly astonishing cathedral, that challenges the concept of 'dark middle ages'. In the summer there's a spectacular light show projected against the south facade. Stupendous!

The city's cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Beauvais) is well worth a visit. Its has beautiful stained glass windows from the 13th, 14th, and 16th centuries. Obviously being a church its free to visit BUT it is worth spending an entry fee to see the astronomical clock. It dispalys the times of the rising and setting sun and moon, the position... More
