Easy to see why everyone raves about this spot....drop dead gorgeous! We walked up the left hand path, quite steep and slippery but wonderful views. So good to have a cafe beside the lake....coffee and berry tart anyone? Came back on the other side of stream....much easier walk but not as scenic. Can you believe.....another cafe for lunch near the... More

The Pont Espagne was a disappointment but walking on we found the lake with a small café at the end. If you don't want to do the whole walk there is a chair lift to take you part of the way. Looking from the cafe you can see the glacier fron Mt Vigmale. It is further than you think so... More

Challenging hike! Stunning waterfalls and scenic area. Plan whole day to do hike above the lake. Many trails from point d'Esagne make serveral routes possible.

Busy, but beautiful lake surrounded by mountains covered in glaciers even in August. Worth the expense/toil of getting there.

A beautiful lake easily accessible by chair lift followed by a 20 minute walk along an easy path or by walking up the GR10 footpath. We cheated and took the chairlift up and walked down. Café next to the lake and toilets as well. Truly beautiful setting and the waterfalls at the bottom are lovely (Pont d'Espagna).

A scenic spot in Cauterets, which can be reached through a chair-lift, giving you a wonderful sensation both while going up and also while coming down. The lake in itself is just beautiful...it's the place from where the river Le Gave starts its flow. The scenery here is marvellous..the waterfalls (the one up at the Lac, and the ones down... More

quite an energetic hike for 1.5 hours to reach the lake ( you can take an old chair lift most of the way if you wish ) rather tacky cafe / gift shop on arrival. Alternative walk back down much more scenic. Waterfalls at start / finish spectacular.

The walk to the lake was quite gentle but we decided to walk on to the Refuge Oulettes which was quite a walk but thoroughly worth while. The paths were often steep but well marked.
