Busy, but beautiful lake surrounded by mountains covered in glaciers even in August. Worth the expense/toil of getting there.

A beautiful lake easily accessible by chair lift followed by a 20 minute walk along an easy path or by walking up the GR10 footpath. We cheated and took the chairlift up and walked down. Café next to the lake and toilets as well. Truly beautiful setting and the waterfalls at the bottom are lovely (Pont d'Espagna).

A scenic spot in Cauterets, which can be reached through a chair-lift, giving you a wonderful sensation both while going up and also while coming down. The lake in itself is just beautiful...it's the place from where the river Le Gave starts its flow. The scenery here is marvellous..the waterfalls (the one up at the Lac, and the ones down... More

quite an energetic hike for 1.5 hours to reach the lake ( you can take an old chair lift most of the way if you wish ) rather tacky cafe / gift shop on arrival. Alternative walk back down much more scenic. Waterfalls at start / finish spectacular.

The walk to the lake was quite gentle but we decided to walk on to the Refuge Oulettes which was quite a walk but thoroughly worth while. The paths were often steep but well marked.

Easily the most beautiful place I've been in my life. Definitely worth the hike, but watch out for avalanches!

We decided to follow the guide book we bought at the Tourist Office and walk up to the Lac de Gaube as well as back down, instead of using the telecabin. The round trip took us over 4 hours and the way up is called 'l'escalier' which is french for staircase. This lived up to its name - the path... More

We walked up and back from the car park at Pont D'Espagne which was fine. However, there is also a chairlift and then a wide level path along to the lake and the refuge. It is a gorgeous area and the lake is stunning. However, we were there in September and there were quite a few people there so I... More

Lac De Gaube is a gentle beautiful walk from the chairlift at Pont d'Espagne...You can also walk around the right shore of the lake to a small beach...
