This gallery is a must for lovers of early 20th century art. Matisse, Picasso, Braque etc are to be seen in the regular displays. Furthermore, their seasonal exhibitions put larger galleries into the shadows. The most recent one we saw was the dynamic Spaniard Plensa whose vast range of ideas and size are breath-taking. A few years ago, mother held a... More

I really enjoyed this small town and the museum of modern art. Works by Chagall, Matisse, Picasso and Miro amongst others. Most of the work is by artists who spent time in Ceret and many donated works to the museum. Many of the pieces featured in the museum depict the Massif (or Pic) de Canigou which isn't surprising as this... More

We stopped at this town to see the Devil's Bridge and had no idea that we would also find this lovely art gallery. When we visited it was featuring the works of Jaume Planca and we would recommend that you allow at least three hours including the 60 minute documentary about Planca and his global projects.

This is an exceptional small art gallery showing examples of the many artists who stayed in Ceret, often returning several times. These include Picasso (includes a unique collection of ceramics), Matisse, Braque, Duffy and and an iconic work of Chagal. There are also works by major French artists less well known in the UK, but also major works. These artist... More

I have been wanting to visit Ceret for a very long time. Many people recommended a visit and raved about the permanent collection. Ceret is a pretty little village with a very arty feel to it. It seems that on every corner there is a gallery or brocante. The gallery is a very nice building but to be honest I was... More

If you find yourself in southwest Catalan France, go to Ceret for this museum. They have a fine permanent collection featuring many famous artists and some absolutely beautiful pieces by relatively little known artists that will dazzle you. In addition they always have a special exhibition. This time it was sculptures by Jaume Plensa. His work was so entrancing it... More

So many 20th century artists made their home in Ceret at some stage or other, the collection of largely local scenes is extensive and varied. The 28 plates depicting the Ceret bullring created by Picasso over 6 days are amazing. The whole museum is wonderfully light and spacious - plenty of room to see the works displayed. And there are... Visiting the museum is a 'must do' if you are in Ceret, there were some really lovely displays on while we were there, and the standard was exceptional. It is a surprisingly good museum, considering the size of the town, but given the area's prominence in the early history of some of the truly great modern artists, not out of... More
