Calvi is the one of most beautiful ports in Corsica, the harbour setting and adjacent beach are idyllic, both lined with restaurants. Towering over the port is the citadel whose history is wrapped up in the islands extraordinary history. For us Brits, it is where Nelson lost his eye. It is also where the Corsicans claim Chrostopher Columbus was born.... More

I have always wanted to visit Calvi and when i first set eyes on this amasing little Citadel ,perched on high dominating the harbour but not in an imposing way,my wife and I were blown away by the sheer beauty of this extremely magnificent piece of craftmanship that is the Citadel of Calvi . It was a beautiful day when... More

Title says it all, not much to see but as you are Calvi you might as well go there. Only need an hour to look round

Calvi is a pleasant little port, but not particularly remarkable. Near the entrance to the port and above it lies the citadel. As the name implies, it is surrounded by a fortified wall, and has small narrow cobblestone streets with residences and a church within. The rest of the port has the usual shoreside restaurants and a few streets set... More

The citadel looks fabulous from a distance but is actually crumbling and in a poor state nevertheless we enjoyed walking around but went back to Calvi for a meal.

Have a walk up to the old town and see Christopher Columbus' alleged birthplace. Very atmospheric and great views

Yes, citadel is full of history, there are interesting streets, but... Views are exceptional, but there was nothing (in May 2014) to keep you there a bit longer. Maybe with a guide it would make a difference...

We were very disappointed, to find this Citadel has been lallowed to decay ! The outside looks great, walking up into the Citadel was a complete let down

We took a walk after dinner and had the entire citadel to ourselves. It is well enough lit that a walk after dark enables you to find your way on the paving stones. Nice to see it when it is not wall to wall tourists and wish we'd gotten there earlier for a sunset drink then left for dinner only... More
