One of the ports we visited whilst on a 22 days Adriatic cruise. Beautiful place and outstanding views very picturesque. This place biases the birth place of Christopher Columbus and after looking in all the alleys we were able to locate it and it was ruins with no plagues nothing. This was disappointing better signs and directions to locate it... More

climbed and climbed under a mercyless sun, but definitely worth the climbing. especially if you're still around at sunset, the panorama is breath taking. nice little roads, plenty of old houses and nice colors.

Calvi Citadel - very old and impressive, and was built to defend the city many many centuries ago. Great place to look for the sunset. Great views, old cobbled stone streets, they believe it is the birthplace home of Christopher Columbus. We came in right time for the excellent Rencontres de Chants Polyphoniques, featuring a cappella groups (A Filetta et... More

The beauty of this ancient citadel is it is not spoilt by modernisation or gentrification . The cobblestones are rough so wear good sturdy shoes , forget about heels. Its steep so be prepared to have a bit of a puff as you climb to the top. There the views are spectacular . Well worth the raised heart beat and... More

The Citadel is really lovely. Best to go towards the end of the day when the heat is subsiding, and the sunset promises a beautiful sky. A Candella is a lovely spot for a meal or drink.

History, charm, views, artisan woodworker, its got it all. Some steep and uneven cobbles to climb to get to the top, but the reward of the views across Calvi bay, the town and beyond are stunning. {if its a windy day just be careful of the sudden gusts of grit & dust....!]

We were in Calvi for a few hours only having arrived by tender from the Thomson Dream cruise ship which was moored a short distance from the harbour. Anyone going to Calvi really must visit the Citadel area which dominates the town at its foot and provides a wonderful vantage point for viewing the surrounding area. While it was early... More

The town of Calvi is dominated by its Citadel enclosing the old town. The views from the ramparts are over both bay to the snowy mountains and to the town and marina. The old streets within the citadel are interesting and the town itself is very interesting and bustling. There are many good looking reasonably priced restaurants along the water... More

The citadel in Calvi is absolutely worth a visit. It is like a city within the city. You can really sense the long history. Some of the buildings are being refurbished and with time it looks like it will be restored to its old grandeur.

Calvi is so beautiful. We went in May and the weather was lovely, and the city itself was not busy at all. The citadel is a must see. It is so beautiful, with mountains on one end, and the sea on the other, as well the citadel itself is nice to see and people still live there. I would recommend... More
