Have a walk up to the old town and see Christopher Columbus' alleged birthplace. Very atmospheric and great views

Yes, citadel is full of history, there are interesting streets, but... Views are exceptional, but there was nothing (in May 2014) to keep you there a bit longer. Maybe with a guide it would make a difference...

We were very disappointed, to find this Citadel has been lallowed to decay ! The outside looks great, walking up into the Citadel was a complete let down

Beautiful streets and alleyways and fantastic views from the top. Little restaurant and bar within and interesting little museum

We took a walk after dinner and had the entire citadel to ourselves. It is well enough lit that a walk after dark enables you to find your way on the paving stones. Nice to see it when it is not wall to wall tourists and wish we'd gotten there earlier for a sunset drink then left for dinner only... More

Ok, I was the one in the group that didn't want to make the climb. My eyes were on the shopping! I am so glad I did! Beautiful view almost at every turn…both the architect and the ocean! We were with two other couples from our cruise and really enjoyed taking pictures. Also there was a charming chapel that came... More

The Citadel at Calvi is a wonderful place to explore as well as get amazing views of the town, port, beach and the beautiful Mediteranean Sea. Surrounded by mountains, the vista is amazing at any time of the day. Discovering the various sites in the Citadel is challenging at times as the cobblestone streets wind their way here and there,... The Citadel could be so much more. It is quite run down in parts with only a couple of restaurants. It could be fantastic (ie) little local shops, restaurants perhaps an artists quarter or local crafts.

The Calvi Citadel is home to one of the French Foreign Legion's Helicopter regiments. It is a powerful looking monument at the end of the village of Calvi. This is a must to visit. We saw the supposed house where Christopher Columbus was born. (This is also claimed by three other cities!) The palace of the Governor and the church... More

Picturesque and quaint place with spectacular views across Calvi. Highly recommended at sunset or at early morning when the sun isn't too strong! Easily accessible for most age groups, but wear suitable shoes for cobbles!
