The owners of Villa Panza are patrons of modern art, and so it's a bit of a dichotomy (perhaps intended) to see Whitney-style art in an old style villa with gilded panels. But the staff does a good job of maintaining this intriguing juxtaposition between old and new, and some of the special exhibits are clearly tailored to the space.... More

As strangers to Varese we didn't find the Villa easily, directions were not always clear The villa is impressive in its design with beautiful formal gardens. The collection, mainly of American abstract Impressionism is unique, and the settings of the exhibits enables viewers to experience them at their best . Works are very varied and includes light static and living experiences... More

Villa and gardens well worth a visit. Interesting history. Found the artwork a disappointment. Very mid 20th century American, which seemed out of place in the location.

From time to time very interesting exhibitions inside. Otherwise a great park for a nice sunny day. The only minus is the price, 12.5EUR (or 3EUR for the park only).

No doubt. Villa Panza is the best art collection we've in Italy. Actually is a private one made possible by the visionnaire owner of the house, sir Panza. This amazing guy donated his own Villa to FAI which is a national organization to support artistic, architectural and landscape heritage. The Villa contains an incredible collection. There you can see modern... More

Probably the most enjoyable visit we made during our stay in the region. The villa is in a tranquil setting and in its own right is architecturally appealing but what sets it apart from all the similar majestic properties so prevalent in this part of the world is how contemporary art has been utilised within. Forget a typical stately home... More

The National Trust in UK has arrangements with the equivalent bodies in some countries. Italy is one of them and so we got into Villa Panza free with out NT card. Otherwise there is a small fee but it is worth it. This is a large old villa in Varese near to Milan. It has been turned into a place... More

We like light art and especially James Turrell is always fascinating in his perfection. Also the changing installations gave new insights into our Earth and Life.

One could break down a review of this place into reviews of the villa itself, the gardens, the expositions and the permanent collections--and they're all very, very different. The Wim Wenders exhibition was a marvel: an hommage to Edward Hopper with large format prints displayed along the walls of this very Italian place. Truly worth the visit. The villa itself... More

Well managed by Fai Italian trust preserves part of the modern art collection of Panza di Biumo. Periodical exhibitions of contemporary art and photography. The villains magnificent and strolling in the garden a pleasure. A little gem in a otherwise quite sleepy provincial town.
