I managed to book with Il Vulcano a Piedi as soon as I arrived in Stromboli. The tour cost 25 euros and it was possible to hire hiking boots and a torch for a reasonable price (9euros). The departure was at 6pm, the perfect timing in order to see a magnificent sun set over the broiling craters. The walk up... More

at night the walk is amazing you hear the bolt and see the incandescent lava. You need water and boots, tha you can rent on the spot, and above all you need the guide, it is prohibited to get to the top all by yourself.

... Extremely windy and dusty once at the top, made it very difficult for us to wait for few flashes of lava in the night. Most importantly people with asthma or allergies should be aware of the difficult breathing at the top due to mix of gases and smoke (also eyes rushes and tears). The lava eruptions are not continuous,... More

Very admirable service that when some fog descended they gave us the option of rescheduling our private guide to the next day. We had small children with us (8, 6 and 2) and our private guide used a good steady pace that they could manage (I carried the 2 year old on my back). It was colder than expected on... More

We booked with Stromboli a Piedi, the office situated on Via Roma and after parting with our €25 we were given the wrong information about the start time. After a very unhappy guide refused point blank to wait for my partner who had been delayed by a few mins and also refused to let me go and get some water... More

seen a few negative reviews of the hiking guides on here. I've just returned from sicily were me and my son hiked up to stromboli summit. it is a fairly strenuous climb, but I'm 41, overweight, smoker of 20 cigarettes a day for years and I never exercise and I made it :-) Our guide was Lorenzo from magmatrek, I... We went with a company called Il Vulcano a Piedi. We were told to be back at the office at 4pm. Due to a dodgy pizza l had to run back to the room. When I caught up at 4.03pm the group had set off at 3. 50 pm and my partner was being dragged up the hill by her... More

In reading previous reviews of the excursion to climb the Stromboli volcano, it wasn't entirely clear that there are multiple companies that organize excursions. Make sure you choose a good company! Unfortunately, at the recommendation of our hotel, we selected Il Volcano a Piedi on via Roma (Stromboli). A hike up Stromboli volcano should be a highlight of any visit... More

Climbing up the mountain to see the active volcano is definitely an experience not to miss. The views from up there are really worth it ! Pity that the whole visit has turned into a pure commercial activity. 25 EUR to be part of one of the numerous groups departing +/- at the same time ; very strict schedule for... More

Pauldo our guide spoke excellent English and did a good job of keeping the group together at an even pace.We had 16 in our group which was fine I am not really fit and don't do regular exercise apart from walking the dog and cycling every now and then to work - and I found it just the right level...
