The staff were friendly and didn't mind us trying out our Italian. Unfortunately the little dhurch is closed for renovation at the moment. The museum has some beautiful frescoes and paintings. Being a religious museum there are lots of artefacts from churches and monasteries. The wooden sculptures of the crucifix are quite remarkable.

The church is very interesting. The museum with all the liturgical vestments etc I could do without.

This forms part of the Cathedral Museum and is reached through the Archbishop's Palace. You arrive in the gallery - an unusual feature for a Catholic church - and make your way down an old stone staircase to the nave. The less fit can still get a good view from above.

Don't miss the "Museo Diocesano di Spoleto e Basilica di S. Eufemia" which displays religious art dating from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period, including a bronze bust by Bernini and several notable Madonnas. The church itself is rather naked but the museum itself offers much to the art lover.
