One of Canada’s Premier Garden DestinationsThe Reford Gardens/Jardins de Métis are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they were created by a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford, between 1926 and 1958. Visitors to this verdant domain of more 200 acres can admire the splendours of some 3,000 species and varieties of native and exotic plants displayed in fifteen gardens. This may have a rating of number one attraction in Métis sur mer, but it should be in the whole province of Québec. To get there, you drive up the south shore of the St Lawrence river to Grand Métis, near the town of Riviere du loup. These gardens, once called The Reford Gardens, are the home of thousands of... This is a beautiful garden, even in September when we were there there was a lot of flowers in bloom. It must be spectacular in the spring! Allow about 2 hours especially if you have lunch there at the charming, tiny cafe.

Was one of the reasons why we were going to go around the Gaspe. We were there for only a couple of hours but would have like to take longer. There is a museum on second floor of the lodge and if we had time, I would have loved to have eaten in the restaurant. The garden was lovely even... More

Reford Gardens has a fascinating history, and a fascinating variety of special gardens. The colors in early July were magnificent and included a wonderful field of lupins and blue poppies..

Have visited several times over the last 20 years in different months, and have always enjoyed - this time (July '13) found peonies and roses in full bloom, and some iris still around - plus the usual wide variety of smaller flora - perhaps a peak. the basic garden is not large - comfortable for an easy walk. They have... More

The gardens have many unusual plants and were looking their best in July. The famous Himalayan poppies were still in bloom. The international festival of gardens is very interesting and you can vote on your favorite. We had a nice lunch at the café, eating outside in the shade. There is also a more formal restaurant which looked nice. There... More

I do not enjoy much flower, I think they are mostly boring thing. But in Reford Gardens, I like the variety and the colors. The main thing I liked in this place was the « Jardins du Monde » It's my favorite part ! Me and my friend stayed there more than one hour, having fun in every piece of... More

Visited by end of june, a wonderful place with some many pictures to take and great views on the St Lawrence River. Very relaxing. The area dedicated to modern garden creation will be appreciate differently according people preference. Visité fin juin, un très bon moment dans un jardin grandiose avec de très belles vues sur le St Laurent. Les jardins... More

Les Jardins de Métis are well worth the trip. The Reford family have shared a magnificent property, stately home with art and museum, and world-class garden with those lucky enough to visit. The international festival is a bonus and well worth the tour. Plan on a three hour visit if you can do it. And, adding lunch is a good... More

These amazing gardens right by the st-Lawrence, have been maintained since the late 1800's and you will find there all kinds of plants because of its micro-climate. The paths are well managed and you can also enjoy a meal in the main house of the property. In the area I also suggest you stop by Ste-Flavie at mr. Gagnon's gallery-restaurant-boutique... More
