Reford Gardens. One of Canada’s Premier Garden DestinationsThe Reford Gardens/Jardins de Métis are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they were created by a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford, between 1926 and 1958. Visitors to this verdant domain of more 200 acres can admire the splendours of some 3,000 species and varieties of native and exotic plants displayed in fifteen gardens. A dozen sculptures by contemporary artists are discovered as you walk the pathways and traverse the gardens.

This is a wonderful place to visit if you like gardens. Make sure you give yourself quite a few hours to see all that there is. The house and the information about the Reford's was very interesting and definitely something that you should see. The dining room was close for a function but looked great. There are areas of flowers,... More

On our trip to Gaspe we stopped at the gardens after hearing so much about them over the years. I myself have 5 acres of groomed gardens with Professional gardeners so I enjoy exploring other gardens. First thing that surprised me was to see how popular they are with the tourists and locals. we actually bumped into people that we... More

A couple of years ago I spent several days of July in these magnificent gardens at a photo workshop with photographer, Louise Tanguay. That was when the garden's emblem, the Blue Himalayan Poppy was in bloom. (mid June to towards the end of July, I believe.) This past week, in September, I visited the gardens when the riot of colour... More

If you visit this area, you MUST visit this spectacular garden and be prepared to stay for as long as humanly possible. We included a delicious gourmet lunch at the Villa Esteven. There are less formal cafes on site where you can eat outside or bring your own picnic. This is a very, very special place. Serene, gorgeous, fascinating gardens.... More

We were not sure what to expect from a garden in a place distant from urban centers and such a northern climate. We have visited many arboretums and gardens throughout the U.S. Renford gardens does earn its designation as a top garden. The colors and variety were stunning. The diversity of plantings set in a woodlands and open spaces was... More

Have been coming to Metis-sur-Mer for 20 years and always go to Les Jardins de Metis each summer. These gardens are a must and are one of the highlights of the Gaspe region of Quebec. Home of the famous Himalayan Blue Poppies. There are acres of beautiful walks among exceptionally well tended gardens along the banks of the St. Lawrence.... More

I don't get tired of beauty - and there is a lot of beauty! We were also quite lucky in witnessing a choir practicing in a section of the garden - I don't know if it is a daily occurence but it was quite special

You could easily spend hours upon hours wandering this incredible property. I went in thinking it would be 'just another garden', but I was very wrong. It is an incredibly well preserved/maintained property with countless flora and a fair bit of fauna. The art section was also incredible. I did not know what to expect, but each display topped the... Stopped at Reford Gardens on our return leg of the Gaspesie loop. We were travelling so did not spend long there, probably just over an hour. I agree with other reviewers that to enjoy the gardens would require about 2-3 hours. One of the reasons for my quick tour was that my husband was waiting in the cafe reading. He... More
