Reford Gardens. One of Canada’s Premier Garden DestinationsThe Reford Gardens/Jardins de Métis are recognized as one of Canada’s outstanding gardens. A national historic site, they were created by a passionate gardener and plant lover, Elsie Reford, between 1926 and 1958. Visitors to this verdant domain of more 200 acres can admire the splendours of some 3,000 species and varieties of native and exotic plants displayed in fifteen gardens. A dozen sculptures by contemporary artists are discovered as you walk the pathways and traverse the gardens.

Spending a few hours quietly walking through either the traditional Victorian garden side, or the contemporary conceptual festival side of the Reford gardens, will do your soul good! Just taking time to breathe forest air, watch the brook babble, marvel at the colours and forms of so many blooms, restores one's zen. Perfectly executed design on so many levels ,... More

We were impressed to know that originally there had been created by the lady who lived there. It is a splendid garden where we can walk for over an hour observing many species of plants of all kinds and original gardens of assortments. It is also possible to visit the mansion on the property.

This was our first visit to this very special place, created in the late 1800's by Elsie Reford and now brought into this era by Alexander Reford (G'G'Grandson) with grace & style & beauty. Never heard so many OUs & AWE's nor seen so many photographers! The installed Annual Festival of Landscape Installations/Competition is simply amazing. The original Lodge now... More

We visited the gardens on a beautiful sunny day. There were still some parts of the garden that were closed but the spring flowering bulbs, trees, and shrubs more than made up for anything that we might have missed. This was our third visit to the gardens but the first during spring season. Each visit has left us wanting to... More

I visited these gardens in Sept when most of the flowers are past their best - but it was still worth the trip. The gardens are beautiful and the plants really clearly labelled. There are lots of ideas here - i particularly liked the vegetable garden. Also check out the garden art installations - usually I am not much of... More

I have wanted to see the Blue Himalayan Poppies in this garden for many years. Unfortunately, they bloom in June/July not August. Despite this we had a wonderful time. The gardens are immaculately maintained. The landscape is beautifully enhanced but the art found throughout; and, the large variety of plants showcased means that there are plants to inspire all levels... More

Be careful , after spending the day at Jardins de Metis you will probably get the gardening bug. What a wonderful day we had. Although the plants are not the most exotic and the garden itself is not the biggest , the care and sheer beauty of the surroundings will take your breath away. Take the time to stroll in... More

Over the past twenty five years, we have been to the gardens a few times and this last visit, after not having visited for years, we were pleasantly surprised at the improvements to the displays in the house and the overall care of the gardens. Although one can not compare Jardins de Metis with a place like Butchart Gardens, we... More

What a nice place to visit in Gaspesia (Québec). We went to visit on August 7th, 2014 and we found that those gardens were a wonderful attraction to visit in Gaspesia. A site that we really recommend to all travelers.
