First off, there are no sand beaches in Positano. So it is very rocky and the rocks get really hot in the Summer. There are beach chairs and umbrella you can rent for $12.50 per person. Plenty of restaurants to get drinks at. This is the best place to be over the 2 other private beaches in the area.

We came late afternoon during week, three adults and kid. Beach has rocks and once you spend time in water and your skin gets softer you might cut yourself. We adults used water shoes but 7 year old didn't and did never cut herself. Beach was small and boats were quite near to beach. There is free beach near but... More

If you visit Italy, you must make Positano one of your destinations. Gorgeous place, breathtaking views. Warm southern Italian hospitality. Amazing restaurants with the best food I ever ate! Fabulous place to stroll and explore the shops.

With a 36 degree afternoon we needed to cool off and this was wonderful place to do so. I had proper " beach shoes" and it was fine in the pebbles/ rocks but my husband's thongs were not great. They broke when he walked in the water. There was no way you could walk on them. The water was cool,... More

As you can see from other reviews this beach has a mixture of dark sand and pebbles this is due to the location and adds to the charm - especially coming from Australia where sandy white beaches are the norm. We didn't bother renting chairs as we came early in the morning and in the afternoon, avoiding the heat of... More

Several day trips to other parts of the coast took us to the Spiaggia Grande. The beach was Clean and the Sparkling Clear Water was so inviting.

We loved lazing on this beach. For Australians it was really hard to walk on those round stones. The water was chilly, but the view from the ocean looking back at Positano was worth every bit of coldness. We did pay the ridiculous fees for the chairs and once we forgot about the money, found it really relaxing. For more... More

I found that Positano is overrated. People say wanders about it, but it is actually its incrustation the cliffs that makes the view impressive. So, the best way to see it is not by going there, going to its pebbly beach (which is uncomfortable to walk on), the best way to see it is to take a boat and see... More

Or anytime. The beach setting is from a movie. The backdrop of the sea and Positano are a marvelous combination that makes you leave home behind. Take your time, and make your day more relaxing. There is a lot of joy in watching the children and pets even, enjoying the waves.
