So, at first I was a bit sceptical about the cable car because we have one at my hometown and it isn't that spectacular. But this one is something special and I enjoyed every second of the ride as the view of Montecatini Terme just progressively spread over the green trees that surround the rails.

My husband and I were on a Cosmos tour which took us to Montecatini Terme for a few nights. This is a lovely spa town in Tuscany, worth a visit itself, although we were using it as a base to explore nearby Tuscan towns, such as Florence and San Gimignano. With some downtime in the middle of our busy itinerary,... More

Great views as you travel up and down the hill. The railway shuts at lunchtime for around 90 minutes, so be aware.

It's a cheap way to get to Alto and it's a fun, short trip. Beautifully kept funicular train -- you'll want to take pictures of it after you finish your trip & pictures during your trip on the way up. Montecatini Alto is a wonderful hill town, well worth the trip up on the funicular.

This is a fun way to get to the village on top of the hill. The service runs all day from 9.30 to 24.00h with a break from 1 - 2.30 pm. The cable car holds 40(?) people and once it is full the gates are closed. Trains run every half hour. Return fare is €7.00 each and it is... More

Great fun way to get up to Montecatini Alto. Experience picturesque views. For those who are a little more adventurous ,use the very front or back of the tram to get great photos. Remains me very much of the old trains in the 1930 films. Enjoy

Riding the Funiculare - railcar- to the summit is the best way to get a view of this picturesque Tuscan town riding high on the summit above Montecatini Terme. Drove down from Bologna on the ss65. Lots of sharp corners but little or no traffic. Arrived and parked near to the railway entrance. It closes between 1200 and 1430 so we arrived just after. Only 7 euros for adults and 4 euros for children. Fantastic views on both upward and downward journey. The town at the top is lovely... More

We enjoyed a ride in the funiculare up to Montecatini Alto for dinner. We arrived just before sunset. The views from the car on the way up and at the top were spectacular. Trips are ticketed by time, so plan accordingly.
