We were staying in Bologna and debated between taking train to Lucca or Ferrara to bicycle. We have been to Lucca in the past and loved it. We were told, and had read, that Ferrara was pretty much the same so we chose to train to Ferrara since it was closer. We had a fine time in Ferrara and would... More

We took complimentary bicycles from the hotel and explored several lovely streets and the travelled along the bicycle path around part of the walls and partly used the path on the top of the walls. Everyone (young and old) seems to cycle in Ferrara and this trip enabled us to enjoy peacefully the wonderful green spaces and trees that exist... More

During our stay in Ferrara, we hired bikes and went to around the wall according to our guidebook. We were amazed at the intact parts of the wall standing as if built recently. It's both inspiring and healthy to bike around it. We will definitely return there.

My daughter and I walked on foot only partly walls. Best by bicycle, this time we did not. How was the first May, everything was green, a true paradise to enjoy. We could see on all sides because of Ferrara is located in the valley. We saw a water tower, a factory chimney. Walls and everything that reminds me of... More

The mura serves all, wether you want to walk, jog, ride a bike or walk your dog. Flat terrain, well maintained and easy to navigate. Great way to meet locals, of which many (unfortunately for me) speak little or no english.

Great idea for a spring bike ride, or summer picnic. Not touristy at all and very impressive piece of architecture

I have lived my whole life in a crowded city, modern, cool, rich and full of activities. Moving to ferrara for educational purposes was not easy; however this city had mesmerized me with its mura. Incredibly beautiful, embracing the city with high trees that seem to talk to you every time you wish to look for their company. When choosing... More

Rode our bikes around approximately half of the walls. We started near Piazza Kennedy and the start was a bit rough with a narrow trail and some construction. We kept going and totally enjoyed the wide lanes, canopy of trees, an meeting others enjoying the morning on top of the city!

Be prepared not to be able to walk or cycle all the way round, as there were certain works in progress. Nevertheless, there are some interesting sights, including a type of sewer built to carry away Ferrara's "black" water, and it has a very pleasant country feel to it, with Ferraresi jogging or walking their dogs. At the end near... More
