Readers of Giorgio Bassani will seek for the famous but non-existent garden of the Finzi-Contini, but they will catch beautiful views of Ferrara and the landscapes beyond, and will visit the Jewish Cemetery and the Chartreuse (the "country within the walls")

The walls are long, and the paths meander. You might be on top, or on the outside looking in for a bit and considering taking a sloping park sidewalk back up. Cycling along, it's a perfect break from agenda driven sight seeing: you can explore a bit, discover gardens and house backyards, work your way around the city, and experience... More

Great place to walk, interesting views of city and outside areas. You never get far from the center of the city. Walked about a third of the way around and then returned to my hotel easily.

This is an excellent hike under the trees on top of the centuries-old walls, giving a sense of the town's history There is also a bike path running along, for a faster view.

At one point the wall just stopped and I found it difficult to find the start again. Better signposting would help.

We visited Ferrara on a Sunday, which was great as it was fairly quiet (unless you want shops which are mostly closed) and had a fantastic cycle ride along the famous old walls of the city. It was an extremely hot day, 38 degrees, and amazingly it was quite cool and breezy cycling along as a large part of the... More

Great place to walk, jog, cycle, sit and chat, take a nap, read or just relax in the shade. they run around the city's perimeter and are the largest walls encircling a city.
