Easily accessible by train from Turin (Porta Nuova) using the direct train that starts every 30' and stops at Avigliana...where...we had to rent a taxi (EUR 40 return) as no public transportation is availble to access the church.
The taxi legft us at the parking place from where you need to walk a further 500 m in an upgoing pedestrian...

Perched at 3,000 ft, this abbey was founded around the year 1,000. Offers wonderful views over the Alps. Just like in the "Name of the Rose" novel and movie (1986), the exterior looks like a fortress The church houses old paintings, frescoes and sculptures. really worthwhile the 2 hr round trip from Torino.

Usually Sacra di San Michere is being introduced as an official symbol of Piedmote. Well this is true but to understand it you need to feel the spirit of this place. Definitely in worth miles and narrow road when driving there

Visited in January 2012. Cold but extremely clear day. You could see as far as Superga, Turin etc.
You half to walk from the parking lot approx. 10 minutes to the ticket office. Handicapped people can drive up (call to advise).
Fantastic place, built in honor of Archangel Michael. Spectacular views over Susa Valley and surroundings.
