Photos are not permitted here, so I had little idea what I was getting into. The museum here is sociological in nature, depicting the lives of Omanis in the past. Upon entering there is a large collection of firearms and swords. Later the museum focuses more on daily life, like cooking and coffee. Upstairs are Old Islamic coins and more... More

A great place to visit while you are in Old Muscat. You can relax a little while you are tired of being in the place for long time. We visited this place every time when we are in Muscat.

Currently the best and most modern museum on Omani heritage, by far. One of the few I've seen that actually has some interpretive panels and information on the items on display. Apparently the collection of the former National Museum was moved here also. Well worth a visit.

As an ex resident of Muscat and visiting after a gap of 28 years I found this museum gave a great insight in to the culture of Oman. Although I lived in Oman for 3 years in the 80's I still learnt a lot from this visit. A lovely place and worth the OR2 it cost.

Bayt Al Zubair is a cute museum that houses Omani heritage in a very professional manner. Its a great place for the entire family to visit and get to know about the heritage of this great nation. Some antiques are amazing and the outdoor set up is also great.

Located in the ancestral home of an important local family it contains a lot about the country's history. Many exhibit's on it's past and present. A café and art gallery also operate within the compound. Highly recommended plus the Sultan's Palace nearby.

Foolishly I walked from Mutrah Souk (3kms ?) in 48 degrees and spent the first half an hour sat in the cafe drinking watermelon juice, reading their books and cooling down. The museum offers a well presented collection of items reflecting Omani culture: weapons, dress, jewellery, kitchenware etc. Upstairs will most likely only appeal to keen numismatists and philatelists !...
