The first of a growing number of micropubs - no music, no fruit machines, no lager, no shots, just friendly conversation in intimate surroundings. It's tiny, very tiny, and just might manage ten or so customers. When you speak, people listen; when they speak you join in. Just how pubs used to be. Excellent real ales dispensed by gravity from... The Butchers Arms is not your Normal Pub. I say this in a good way. A really good pint or jug of ale will be served straight from the barrel to you by Martyn(Landlord) or Gavin(Tuscany Sunset Barman) in a small (front room size) area where you can sit at an original butchers block table (or stand if theres no... That's appealing not appalling! I have been visiting The Butcher's Arms for around 3 years. During that time it has got better and better. It's hard to see how it could improve more but it does. And this in spite of having what is universally agreed to be a grumpy landlord. It's probably this pub's greatest charm. Martyn Hillier is... More

Read about the micro pub concept before visiting kent. The Butchers Arms is a great idea, serves great beer and people actually talk!! Well worth a visit if you like real ale

Not a place for those wishing to have a private conversation or sensitive to the opinions of others BUT a gem if you like good company with your real ale and appreciate English eccentricity. Kentish Session and Truro Betty Stogs were brilliant. Do it !

I'm not sure I can contribute much more than what has been written. We went last weekend on a tour of Kent micro-pubs, and this was the first place we stopped. Out of the 6 or 7 places we went, this was definitely way up at the top. I wish we could have spent more time there, as the owner... More

Reputedly Britain's smallest free house, this is a unique experience. With room for ten at a squeeze, this quirky pub is a delight for those with a hankering for tradition and good ale. A former butcher's shop, enter into this place with a good humour and a desirev to be friendly. Cross the landlord and you'll be out on your... More

Trip advisor doesn't have a category for pub. It should because pubs are a great English institution and pastime. The Butcher's Arms is not a restaurant, in fact the only food there are fine unpasteurised cheeses, pickled eggs and onions and packets of crisps and scratchings. Don't go for lunch. Go for the beer. Go there, of all places, if... More
