Visited on a Saturday afternoon in January and plenty of other people visiting also. £7.50 each entrance fee which was fine as money goes back in to doing up the jail. (Crowdfunding could be an idea) Its a self tour and you are advised to start at the bottom and work your way up. Personally I think it would work... More

Ive read a few reviews that i think are so wrong . One review slates some of the exhibits for being graphic what do people expect it was a victorian prison. Whipping, hanging and other punishments were carried out on a daily basis. If you dont want to see real live go to disney land. I realy enjoyed reading the history... More

We've been before nearly 3 years ago. I found it interesting and had a couple of eerie feelings/experiences. It was my daughter who wanted to return. Not a lot has changed but they have opened up a little more. Having forgotten quite a bit of the history I did spend time reading as we went around. The lighting is dim... More

What can I say? I've never visited a more amateurish tourist attraction. The information panels looked like they'd been created on a typewriter for a school project. Some were unreadable due to water marks. It looked like the panels hadn't been updated for at least 20 years. The wording was poor - spelling mistakes and grammatic errors. It was too... More

Visited in June this year.. And to be honest was not to impress.. The amount we paid for two of us was steep.. We then entered the jail and wondered around.. To be honest it was more like a museum. We just wondered around looking in old cells.. That had manikins in which were supposed to be the people that... More

I really enjoyed it, was a tad spooky in the outside jails which we would of missed if we hadn't parked out the back. Would like to do a night tour next.

I took my kids here, fully expecting them to enjoy it. It's about 20 mins tops. The lighting is awful, I understand trying to make the place dark, but there are several areas where the displays are dark and there's also no information on what's supposed to be shown. Several areas clearly had lights ( period style candles etc) but... More

Three months' hard labour for being homeless! The same for being unemployed! A 2-year old boy sent to prison for begging with his homeless mother! A 9-year old boy hanged for stealing bread - after living alone on the streets since he was 6! The minimum age for execution being 7 years old - until 1908! All this and more... More
