Stopped to see the building and have some lunch once we saw the pub. Staff were very friendly and food was good solid pub fare, big portions for a fair price. Building was spooky, our 10 year old was constantly jumpy and this horrible dad may have made it worse! Good value and great history!

We were looking for things to do locally to our holiday cottage and we found this, to start off our day. The owner/publican was full of stories and information and was a bit of a jolly character. around £7 each to go in- which we thought was a little too high but it is a private enterprise and an old... Love this place - the food is fantastic value for money and the staff friendly. VERY atmospheric place to visit and a little spooky too. Will be back.

Visited the jail yesterday. Was very glad we went in daylight. Dave the barman was a great character. We were able to walk around all 6 floors on our own. The most interesting was the Naval section where we could go in the empty cells. This is the most derelict part of the building and the feeling of utter desolation... More

Great building very imposing, bit strange paying at the bar and going through to bar to get to the jail but o.k. Defiantly not a place I would want to be after dark 6 floors to look at very good information to read and look at, pub nice for a relaxing drink at the end of your visit.

Loved looking around this place and learning about its history. My kids loved it too and they are 9 and 5. It is weary in some places and you can feel what it was like there back in the day. My mother iin - law came out nearly stone cold. It is a must to visit.

Great time looking around the jail, quite spooky at times but the history and exhibits are fantastic. Good food at restaurant too!!

Could be so much more but is still worth a visit. Prepare to have to walk through a pub and wait at the bar to buy your tickets (poor signage as well) - this did nearly make us turnaround and leave and it also felt like a cynical marketing ploy to get people to eat/drink in the bar (making us... The building is very imposing. We liked it because it was informative, as previous reviewers already said. But at the same time it did put us in a sort of a sad mood. You read all those stories about the people convicted, the reasons for their conviction and how they were executed or punished. It did get to us. When... More
