It's a rather ominous looking building and it's even better inside, if you're in to old, creepy and historical buildings! (take care in the bottom level cells it's very dark down there) This jail is one that you take yourself around, and it gives a really good insight into the lives that people had if they ever had the misfortune... Me and my partner were looking forward to something different in Cornwall to see and Bodmin Jail sounded interesting. The exhibition area is very small, unguided and was overpriced at £7.50 and although we read most of the limited information and went everywhere we could our visit lasted less than 20minutes. Unlike many historic places this did not appear to... More

We visited on a sunny afternoon but it was cold dark and dank once inside..cardies required. Some of the stories displayed were what you would have expected. However among the unexpected was the area given over to the children that were jailed one was two years old for vagrancy with his mother and another 7 or 9 year old was... More

Take time to visit Bodmin Jail. It's definitely a real hidden hem. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The displays and tableau are informative without being highbrow and the tableau are well designed. There are a couple of more graphic displays which might attract some reaction from younger children but nothing too scary! Stone stairs lead to 6 floors so no... More

Upon arrival car park is extremely small and to enter the exhibit you have to purchase tickets at the bar and walk through the restaurant whilst people around you are having their meals and just when you thought that wasn't bad enough you enter through the swinging door for the kitchen / waiters pass. Once in the jail you enter... More

Went here because my partner was excited to go. If you do your research before you come you can gain a lot of knowledge from it. The jail has four levels and the lower you go the colder it gets. The prison is certainly different between day and night. The one thing that is funny Is that on the higher... More

You pay at the bar and no one checks your ticket on the way in. I see other reviewers say pay if your are honest and you could probably get away without paying but in any case we all paid. (There is £1 discount for seniors.) The jail is set out over multiple floors. When you first go in and... More

raw, rough and slightly cranky I would advise anyone to go check this out the displays are weird and yet have a sense of the uncanny and Cornwalls dark history is known

Didn't think the price of a ticket was too bad, although entering through the restaurant area was a little weird in my opinion. The plaques to read were interesting yet rather repetitive. Was a shame to see some of the 'cells' had litter in them (mcdonalds cup in the first cell on the right). Don't expect to make a day... More

Interesting to read about the prisoners, the crimes they had committed & punishments they received. It brings home the harsh conditions of Victorian jails. We liked the stories about individual prisoners, but were quite shocked to read of very young children (as young as 2 years old) being locked up. The gift shop had a range of novelty items to...
