Lovely beach for dog lovers

Small beach and great for walking the dogs or watching the kids build sand castles. Get the cobwebs blown away and feel refreshed after walking on this lovely sized beach.

I am fortunate to have this little gem close to my home. Good weather or bad I will take the dog for a walk. Great parking if needed and if you have the energy in daytime you can head round the point which leads you to Groomsport. Call into the Groomsport inn for a coffee or a nice pint.

A beach that would rarely get a coloured flag due to the dirt and poorly kept environment. The old shelters were in disarray, the beach was dirty and full of dog pooh and the seaweed and rack looked as if it had never been moved for years. Where are all the students who use to clean the area - yes... More

Ballyholme beach is very popular with the locals and dog walkers. Set on the edge of town towards the Groomsport road it is a fairly sandy beach with only local parking. I prefer to travel a little further onto the Groomsport road and look (carefully) for a TO THE BEACH sign that's on the left hand side between houses just... More

Ballyholme beach and coast could be really nice if owners picked up their dog’s poo but they do not and that makes the visit unpleasant and unsafe for children. The water may be getting clean reports for pollution but I have seen the waves lapping over dog poo so it really isn’t a place for children to play. Recently things... More

Visited the beach on my way of Mourne road coastline. It's lovely to see. Giant beach. Was a really nice day and close to the twilight time. So was stunning see the colors in the ski and the sun reflecting on the sea. Who doesn't like this?

I promise the excellent reviewer T-bird that I was not here with any dogs at all. I was not walking on the beach, I was up on the pavement. I walked down from the train station, it was a lovely day. Everything was so clear on the other side. I could see all the way to Carrickfergus and Whitehead, where... More

My husband & I take walks along this beach all the time. The promenade starts passed Ballyholme Yacht Club (where you will find toilet facilities & a little playground) & gradually runs out once you pass the main row of houses on the esplanade leaving you with just the sand to walk along for a distance. I'll be honest –... More

The beach is well maintained all year, great dog users have to keep pets on lead during the busy months. Water is very cold all year but in NI we are thick skinned and well use to it. There are toilets available but a bottle bank is set too close to them for bare feet. Just a pity there is... More
