I promise the excellent reviewer T-bird that I was not here with any dogs at all. I was not walking on the beach, I was up on the pavement. I walked down from the train station, it was a lovely day. Everything was so clear on the other side. I could see all the way to Carrickfergus and Whitehead, where... More

My husband & I take walks along this beach all the time. The promenade starts passed Ballyholme Yacht Club (where you will find toilet facilities & a little playground) & gradually runs out once you pass the main row of houses on the esplanade leaving you with just the sand to walk along for a distance. I'll be honest –... More

The beach is well maintained all year, great dog users have to keep pets on lead during the busy months. Water is very cold all year but in NI we are thick skinned and well use to it. There are toilets available but a bottle bank is set too close to them for bare feet. Just a pity there is... More

This beach is 10 minutes walk from my mums and I consider it my home beach! My children love playing there on the sand at the end farthest away from Bangor. It forms part of the north down coastal path and you can either walk into Bangor or in the opposite direction round a beautiful path to the village of... More

Could be beautiful if cleaned up. There's a lot of seaweed , stones and litter, particularly at the stretch leading to the yatch club. Still worth a visit though and a good place for a walk. Wouldn't be too sure that the water quality is good enough to swim in although some people do. As for the dog restrictions-it is... More

You can have a really amazing day here if you get the good weather (and if the arrogant young teenagers stay out of your way). I'm sure families love it for playing in the sand with their kids. It's lovely just to sit in the car in the night and look out to sea, too. However, the smell in the... More

A friend lives overlooking this beach so it's a stone's throw to get there. A brisk walk to blow away the cobwebs. Walking alone, with family or friends or simply taking the dog for a walk, it's a great beach to get some fresh air into your lungs. Family friendly. Watch the boats go by or the waives crashing down,... More

Great place to walk with family, friends and on your own to clear your head. Breath taking views especially at dawn and dush with very good and usually pretty clean beach. Toilet facilities at carpark....only complaint is it should be better sign posted and the entrance/exit to the car park is dodgy so be careful if driving. Great walk either... More

Great little place for a walk along the beach! It was wet and windy but that did not detract from our visit!

What I love about this place is that it's not far from the centre of Bangor but has a totally different feel. There's the 'downtown' marina for a more cosmopolitan vibe and this bay for being more towards the great outdoors. One side of the bay leads to the town and the other leads to nature.
