We recently returned to the Maritime Experience with members of our family who live in other parts of the country. They were so very much impressed as we were on our 1st visit. The buildings, 17th century shops and tea rooms were great to experience, but, the ships were wonderful. A Genuine 17th Century War Ship (Galleon) and a Steam... More

We visited the Maritime Experience (18/11/14) during a four night break at Rushyford Co Durham w/c 17/11/14. No doubt because of the time of year and the day being Tuesday the place was fairly quiet with a small school trip and a handful of other hardy souls such as us which was perfect as we were able to enjoy all... With The Trincomalee as the centrepiece, this place is oozing with atmosphere depicting the Nelson period. There are guides in full costume to take you around if you wish and the kids will have a ball.

This is a lovely place to visit with or without children. Every time I go I see something new to wonder at. There is the free part and there is the Trincomalee and the rest of the museum where you pay to get in where there is so much more to see. Visit and be amazed.

What an amazing restoration of HMS Trincomalee, life size models on board gave us abit of a shock as they are abit scary, very good insite into what people had to endure abroad these ships. Will be visiting again....

Spent the morning enjoying all the wonderful attractions and exhibits at this step back in time place. The buildings are a brilliant replica of what they would have been like and you feel like you have gone back in time, a bit like Beamish at Sea! The talks and demonstrations are well worth spending time enjoying. The activities for children... More
