Eric Morecambe - his stage name - was born in the town. He and his stage partner Ernie Wise became perhaps the most popular comedy duo on British television, back in the days when British comedians - especially Lancashire comedians - were still brilliantly funny. Eric and Ernie's Christmas special TV shows were watched by millions and became part of... More

My husband and I were both very disappointed with Morecambe. The town appeared deserted and a little sad. The only thing we could find that had any interest at all was the Eric Morecambe statue. We will not be returning.

As you drive along the promenade in Morecambe look out over to the south lakes as the view is breath-taking and if you feel the need to look in land it also is breath-taking but in the wrong way. What a dump Morecambe is, the saving grace is the promenade which looks like it has money spent on it, perhaps... More

Good to visit but not overly exciting. It is in a nice spot near Morecambe beach, so good for families to visit.

When he was here the statue was a great place to visit. The surrounding area is beautifully decorated with space to stand and pose. The sea bird statues are lovely. I just hope he'll be returned to his home town soon

We have visited Eric many times before but due to him being recently vandalised he was not there but being lovingly restored with promises he will return. We will look forward as many others will too to seeing him back where he belongs!

It is official - the statue will be reinstated 11 December 2014 - hurrah! Since a naughty individual decided that it would be good to saw through Eric's leg, he has been down in London being recast. But we now await his return with baited breath. I don't just visit - I live here and we have missed him so... More

Not too much one can say about a statue but on this occasion it was different. On our way to the market we had another look at the statue. On our way back poor old Eric was laying on the floor on his back. Someone had sawn of his leg which left him without a leg to stand on.
