Could be overlooked with Open Championship Courses as well as others so close. The opening par 3 may not be for everyone but, absent significant wind, provides relatively easy access to the rest of the course. This is a very attractive course which varies between shorter shot challenges to holes requiring significant length. The Clubhouse is quite welcoming both by... More

S & A is a wonderful course with a wide variety of holes, memorable landmarks and topography. It is tough but fair and less penal than many in the area. The course is well conditioned. The clubhouse is very nice with a great view of the course from the bar. this is a must play course in the area

Lovely course; well maintained; former Ryder Cup venue with many historic photos; the staff was very welcoming and the bar was a great place to stop after the round!

Played Southport & Ainsdale with two friends on Monday 27th July 2015. Excellent Links course which requires you to be on top of your game. Great layout with some very interesting holes. Well manicured, only negative on the day was that there were lots of worm casts on the greens which spoilt putting. Greens had either not been cut that... More

Classic links golf - challenging and always interesting. Food in the bar was cheap and very good. Pumpkin soup, steak and ale pie and a black pudding salad with poached egg all delicious.

My wife and I were privileged to play Southport & Ainsdale (S&A) Tuesday 22 July. The golf course was superb in every respect and in excellent condition. The professional staff were highly accommodating, including the starter who introduced us to the lady captain and her golf partner who were playing two groups ahead of us. The course is most interesting,... More

After playing Royal Birkdale and Lytham earlier in the week, I can firmly say that S&A is equal if not better when it comes to a links course. Like Lytham, this course starts off with a fun par three, and then you are off to the races. #17 is a monster, and you better make sure your drive is deep... More

The course was in great shape and the people in the clubhouse and bar area were really nice and welcoming. Went with the golf society and everyone agreed it was the best course of the three we played
