I checked first to see if we could take our two Labradors on the Steam Railway, I was advised that they most certainly could, and free of charge. The journey takes approx. 1 hour and takes you through some lovely coast and countryside views. The final destination is Port Erin, although you can get off at several stations along the... More

The Steam Railway is beautifully preserved and a genuine part of the transport network. For residents, this means free travel for the over 60's, but no such concessions for senior visitors. Nor were they particularly adept at selling the better value Explorer ticket, and if you want to upgrade, you have to return to the issuing office. Watching with a... More

The railway deserves its position as one of the leading tourist attraction on the IOM. Not only for the nostalgic journey from Douglas to Port Erin with the smell of steam and coal; but also for the Fireman's Breakfast served in the Douglas waiting room - on a shovel!

Douglas to Port Erin abd no better way to travel on this charming littke narrow gauge railway. It takes an hour to get to Port Erin thought some of the finest views of the Island along the way. Alk the charm of this Victoria railway is retained as if time has stood still

We got the Steam train from Port Erin to Douglas, an hour on a steam train is a superb way to travel. Its a nostalgic trip in time through some lovely scenery with great coastal views.

This is a wonderful narrow gauge railway with beautifully preserved locomotives & carriages probably dating back to its formation. We were pulled by Hutchinson with its brass beautifully polished. This is what all railways used to be like (apart from the gauge)!

Loved the steam train. Great fun. A good experience for those who remember steam and those who are learning about it.

We had Island Explorer Tickets and the Steam Railway was included. We travelled from Douglas to Port Erin. The station was beautiful red brick Victorian splendour and the train was neat and tidy. The staff were friendly and efficient and we departed right on time. There are plenty of stops on the way but we travelled to the terminus at... More

The trip takes just over an hour and allows you to disembark at various points, but with only a couple of trains a day, you need to plan well. Good family entertainment.
