A hidden gem

Lovely hidden waterfall...gorge is well maintained, I would imagine it gets very busy in the summer, but perfect to visit not during high season

Or so they say. There suppose to be some moss growth which was thought to help cure tuberculosis as it allegedly has powerful beneficial effect on respiratory system. Lovely place and unusual. Especially in a bad weather. It has a cafe which serves food, some art/photo exhibition, film room with documentaries on WW2 and WW1. 2 exits, views of the... More

PLUTO (pipeline under the ocean) is located here. Well worth a visit. The chine is beautiful. at the entrance is the PLUTO exhibition and Royal Marine memorial. A pathed walk will give you a lovely experience.

Lovely way to spend some time in Shanklin walking down to the bottom of the Chine. Interesting museum and gift shop down at the bottom of the Chine together with a very good teashop for afternoon cream tea. Access to the beach too. Look for wild flowers and red squirrels!

A beautiful walk through the chine with plenty of view points and places to sit and relax. The cream tea was amazing; the best we've ever had, and we've tasted many! There are also a few caged animals and red squirrels to look out for. The history exhibition is really interesting; about famous artists visiting the island and a war... More

The chine itself is pretty enough, but the paths and surroundings are all a nasty looking concrete which really detracts from the experience. I also don't quite understand what it is you get for your entrance fee. We were in and out in an hour including a toilet stop. Also, be prepared for the climb back out, not complaining, but... More

Really nice place for a walk, very picturesque with an impressive waterfall. The wife thought it was very romantic. The cakes in the cafe are awesome, and there is a pub on the beach at the end of the gorge.

An interesting DVD watched on entry explaining Shanklin's war time efforts. A beautiful walk through the chine followed.

A good place to walk amidst the nature and waterfalls..Not something which kids or elderly people would like to do as there are a few steps to climb down and then back up again. Overall a good place for people who like to spend some time with the peaceful nature. The only thing we were disappointed with was that there... More
