This is one of my favourite Isle of Wight attractions, just a step away from the tourist-y sections of upper and lower Shanklin, and we've visited repeatedly. It’s a rather old-fashioned and very low-key affair: just a wander down (or up, depending on how energetic you feel) following the stream course of a small, but deep, wooded ravine between Shanklin... It was a rather dismal day so we included a visit to the Chine on a New Years Day walk. Steep walk back up so you need to be fit!

We've been to the beautifully-landscaped Shanklin Chine about three times since we started visiting the IoW in the last few years and just love it, from the first sight of that pretty waterfall, followed by a leisurely stroll and easy climbs, to a glimpse of red squirrels in the parkland outside. You don't come here for excitement, you come for... More

Beautiful place, nice value, and you learn something in their historic learning center too. Very tranquil, would not recommend when it rains, otherwise do go take a walk down the trail

Very pretty and not a challenging climb; lovely waterfall. Takes you from the seafront up to the shops.

A great evening experience in the Summer months to walk up or down the chine and see the coloured lights bring the Chine to life - something few other places have as a tourist attraction.

I've lived on the Island for a few years but had never visited Shanklin Chine. Oh wow. It is really beautiful - you really must take a camera. It's in an odd place, quite out of the way but it IS a chine, so that's to be expected I suppose. Now, if I had been 15 instead of 50, I... More

I visited the chine a few years ago when I lived in shanklin. This being the isle of Wight, it probably hasn't changed much since then. I have to say I was impressed. It's quite dramatic both because of the steep landscape and the water rushing through it. It's also very atmospheric, probably because the spray from the falls makes... More

I have been to the Chine many times. It's a lovely place for couples, families or just a peaceful moment to yourself. The Chine is basically a lot like a gorge that has been eroded by water over thousands of years and particularly since the last ice age. The sound of the water at the long drop waterfall is deafening... More
