We go to the gala now and again with our daughter. The screens are fine and the cinema and buildings are new and accessible. Staff are always pleasant. The only thing you should know is not to visit on a weekend evening as there are crowds of inebriated people milling around as there are many bars and clubs in this... More

We go to the Gala on a regular basis and have never had a bad experience. Tonight we came to see Irish comic Jimieoin, who was very funny as ever, but it's made even better buy the comfortable environment which the theatre provides. The Gala is a superb asset for Durham City and I for one will always endeavour to visit whenever... More

This is a great venue in the heart of the city! We were visiting Durham and it was lovely to have something different to do in the evenings. We were at the cinema and then a show the following evening. Super and central.

because it's modern, the seats are big enough and accessible enough- and you can park right next to it in the underground carpark. The bar is a bit crowded...

Good range of entertainment at reasonable prices. The main auditorium works well; acoustically, sight lines and atmospherically. However the studio/function suite would be much better arranged around tables instead of too close rows, as a long narrow school hall; poor view and uncomfortable. Friendly staff.

I am always dubious about visiting a cinema that is part of something else, but the cinema in the basement here whilst small has all the things I would expect from a cinema, add to the fact that it is right in the City centre means you can still eat out before going.

We are regular visitors to the Gala, and have been since it opened. It is now part of a whole complex of bars and restaurants, which is convenient, as the only quibble we have is the price of food in the in-house restaurant! We have seen all kinds of things - stand up comedians, professional and amateur plays and musicals,... More

Visit this lovely theatre from time to time. This time for Durham Stage School annual performance. (Chorus Line). This compact, modern and friendly theatre is in a great setting on the Banks of the river. The performance from these young people never ceases to amaze me - incredibly accomplished and as good as many professional performances. Theatre well worth a... More

Brilliant venue. By far my preferred choice out of any cinema. Comfy seats, perfect sized rooms. The price of the food inside is the only negative I have. Overall a very good Emily experience.

Saw a great 3D Movie at Gala best I've seen even when I've been to the big brand cinemas. The glasses were a lot more comfortable than normal, the prices lower so I was able to save more and the quality of the 3D screen was amazing
