Having visited the museum before, we went specifically to see the "For Valour" exhibition on the WW1 Victoria Cross winners from the county. The exhibition is very compact and well laid out. The rest of the museum contains a comprehensive history of the regiment and how long you spend there depends on how long you want to spend reading the... More

Remember visiting four times or so in a mix of times, once as a school trip, twice when an exhibition was on and once for a general visit. Its a very civilized and informative war museum with some things for kids. They blend together to rid the place of dullness, as an example, there will be rifles and uniforms you... More

Excellent museum and gallery with parking outside. The history in it is worth seeing as are the artifacts.

Spent a good hour and a half at this place, found it really interesting. Everything is well presented and some fascinating stories to read about. Was great that the kids were able to get in the vehicles and touch the various objects about the museum as it got them asking questions as we went. There was a teddy bear hunt... More

A very well done little museum. There are a lot of moving stories and exhibitions including several VC winners. There is also a section for children to get involved in. It is only a short distance out of the town centre and if you like brass bands every Sunday they have a concert in front of the museum.

The museum give a fascinating insight into local military history and hats lots of exhibits such as personnel carriers, machine guns, uniforms, medals, etc from the wars. There is also an art gallery which was closed the last time I visited. The down side is that the cafe is expensive for what you get. My support worker ordered a panini... More

As the son of a dli soilder I found the museum very interesting. It was a great experience to see things that my dad had used in Korea which helped me get a better understanding of what it must have like for the lads that fought.

I first visited this museum two years ago hoping to find some information about my partners Great Grandfather who died at The Somme on 5th November 1916, it turns out there is a whole section of the museum devoted to this action and it is incredibly moving to read the words of the soldiers and their commanding officer and this...
