I first visited this museum two years ago hoping to find some information about my partners Great Grandfather who died at The Somme on 5th November 1916, it turns out there is a whole section of the museum devoted to this action and it is incredibly moving to read the words of the soldiers and their commanding officer and this... Lovely museum outlining the history of the Durham Light Infantry, County Durham's "local" regiment. Well worth a visit. Special World War I exhibitions throughout the next few years.

I have always loved the DLI museum, and the grounds in which it sites are equally as fabulous. If you go for a visit they have a café where you can enjoy some tasty food or there is plenty of grass for a picnic if the weather is good. The museum itself is very interesting and is set out in... An exhibition that is well put together and the use of artefacts actually used by some of the characters mentioned actually brings events to life in a very tangible way. There are dressing up costumes for the children too.

It is a fairly small museum but this does not stop it being any less interesting, there are a wide assortment of weapons from WW1 and 2 as well as military outfits and memorabilia. The quotes and diary entries from the soldiers are very interesting to read and make you feel proud to have come from the north east and... More

Having read so many good reviews on here i decided to take my family. The only good thing here is the price £10.50 for a family. Upon driving up to the place you first notice just how small it is. You cannot hold rifles as they are all bolted down. There is only 2 helmets to wear and only one... More
