The DLI Museum tells the history of the Durham Light Infantry. It is in a nice setting, there is a lovely pond and picnic area outside. When I visited the cafe was not open( no doubt due to government cuts).I wish we had taken a picnic. There are plenty of artillery and other weapons which youngsters of all ages can... More

The Durham Light Infantryman museum tells the story of this local regiment. It's fascinating and has a free car park and a cafe.

They've done a good job with the DLI museum. As we reach saturation point of especially WW1 themed media, this museum does well to bring back the human element of war. Some very moving stories from the origins of the regiment to its modern form. Genuinely interesting pieces from trench clubs to rifles etc. Not entirely sure about encouraging visitors,... More

We visited as the castle and crook hall were closed but it is well worth a visit in its own right. Lots of personal stories included in the displays. Reception staff very helpful. Interactive displays for children.

The Durham Light Infantry has a long and well-documented history. The museum did a good job with exhibits and provided plenty of context. Loved the German helmet try-on station--who ever had that one had a fat head. Unfortunately, the art gallery was closed when we were there.

We went to the Art Gallery to look at the touring Recording Britain Exhibition and attend the accompanying lecture. Both were well worth the visit. We had coffee beforehand in the little clean café that was limited but good value and welcoming. The surrounding grounds are also attractive. We walked from our city hotel to the Gallery but there is... More

You could hours at this museum soaking up memories of the past. The fact thAt these are extracts from fallen soldiers or memories from families are soul rendering. The history of the DLI through the ages is fascinating ( I am the proud wife of an ex armed forces in the LI) Definitely place I will return to.
