Durham is a great city in my view - WHY? Because I live here and have visited many cities but this has the lot. Castle - Cathedral - River - Bars - Eating Establishments - easy accessible to everyone, well maybe the Train Station could do with a lift of some sort to get people from the bottom to the... More

Authentic taste of France in Durham. Would recommend to anyone to give it a try, both sweet and savoury.

Lots of interesting shops and stalls, some out of the ordinary type, excellent pipe and cigar shop, which stocks a range of tobaccos and cigars .

Nice little market with the usual types of stalls expected to see. Clean and tidy. Had lunch from a butchers stall that sold take-away hot food, had sausage casserole with roast spuds and rice for £2.80! Bargain! And it was delicious!

Expected very little after reading earlier reviews but was pleasantly surprised. This is a busy and active market with a vast array of differing stalls. The stall owners seemed very friendly & happy with their lot, there is a great comeraderie amongst them. No stalls that we could see were empty.

Expected a lot as its set in centre of Durham, so disappointed when we walked in, tiny, and not much there, card stalls more than 3 I think, hardware, food, cafes, couple of ornaments and not much else. It was very disappointing,

Certainly would recommend a visit to this indoor market. So much to see and so many stalls/units covering virtually every possible requirement. The Market Hall is a bit like Dr Who's Tardis, so much space inside. Quality goods as well as the cheaper range are all available and we could have spent even more time and money there (not sure... I came here late afternoon as I love looking around. There are public loos, a good cafe and the wrought iron architecture is a pleasure to behold. Unfortunately most stalls seem to close about 4pm but I did manage to buy some Craster Kippers. Normally there is a great variety of stalls - there is a particularly good shoe stall... More

The old building itself's a blessing (much better than outside, esp. when it's cold or windy or raining) and there's spectacularly good cheese and meat and fish on sale there. In December it's a good place for impressive Christmas presents, too, when young artists and craftspeople (e.g. modern potters) have stalls there. There's a decent pub right outside.
