We'd never have thought this delightful, tranquil place could be found virtually in the centre of Durham city. Just along the road from the new Radisson Blu hotel sits an oasis of tranquility and prettiness. The house consists of buildings from three periods, merged together into one - Medieval, Jacobean and Georgian. The house is cozy and interesting, without being... More

The central location of Crook Hall adds so much to the wonderful quirky historical house and extensive gardens. On top of this an outdoor break for cakes and coffee completed an interesting ramble round what appears to be someone's loved garden with lots of nooks and crannies, orchards and even what once was a silver and white garden. The review... More

This is an amazing house and garden on the edge of Durham city. The different ages in the house are fascinating and the small garden very "busy". There are beautiful views from the garden to the cathedral. The tea garden is a delight and the young waitresses charming. (I thought I saw the owner helping out too.) If in Durham... More

The house was charming with a welcome fire making up for a chilly August Day. The gardens were sadly neglected but with great potential. Suggest 'Friends of the Garden' or something similar. Afternoon Tea commenced with Sparkling wine and was a complete delight and good value - the price includes entry to the garden. Staff were helpful and attentive. Thank... More

Thank you for your comments although we are sad to hear that you feel our gardens are neglected; our gardeners Roger and John, plus the many volunteers who help them, work extremely hard to keep them looking wonderful throughout the year and the lovely comments we normally receive are testament to that. We are on the other hand delighted that... More

Nothing to dislike all staff including owner were so friendly even when very busy as it was when we visited. Food at lunch great and plentiful and wide choice. But such a magical place for adults and the many children we saw enjoying themselves

A gentleman by the name of Bob K is unique for he is the only person to rate Crook Hall as terrible. My gf and I thought it was fantastic. All the gardens were different and yet beautiful. I thought the house was a real delight and it was great that we found this little gem on tripadvisor. Funnily enough... More

What a beautiful way to spend your day! A map is provided of the estate for you to wander through at your own pace. The gardens are just gorgeous. I decided on a whim to stay for tea and I am so glad I did! I ordered English tea and a scone and was pleasantly surprised at the pretty tea... More

The gardens at Crook Hall are absolutely beautiful, and you can get lost there for a long time wandering around. It was particularly gorgeous on the day we visited, as the sun dappled through the trees. I particularly enjoyed the Shakespeare garden and sat there for quite a while - a lovely spot. There's a maze which is fun to... More

Crook Hall is a short walking distance from the center of Durham, but it feels like the English countryside. The historic home is surrounded by a variety of beautifully maintained English gardens, including a maze. They serve a lunch using seasonal vegetables picked from their garden.

Thank you for your review of Crook Hall and Gardens. Although we are only a very short walk from the centre of Durham it does indeed feel like we are in the middle of the countryside and our gardeners, Roger and John, do a fabulous job of maintaining each stunning garden 'room'. Our maze provides endless fun for children and... More
