I can't stress how great this place is. You can go here and get as many books as you want... FOR FREE I've made an absolute fortune from this, selling books on to those restaurants that use book pages as wallpaper. Get on it while there's still some left!

This library has an excellent archives section that I have visited on several occasions when doing family research. There are microfiche records of Births, Marriages and Deaths and there are many parish records and directories that are not available on line.

There is an excellent archive here and a wi-fi and computer zone. The range of literature is amazing and the staff extremely helpful.

Barrow library is housed in a lovely Victoria building in one of Barrow's squares. The architecture in the square is impressive and the library even do bus passes now.

This library has recently had a major make over bringing it into the 21st century. It is accessible to young and old and is manned by a knowledgeable staff who are keen to help. The Archives dept is particularly good with a wealth of unexpected documents and maps to browse. The building itself is an interesting one and is an... More

And the record office for you to look through archive material on the area, look up family records, or read old copies of the Evening... More

We went here to do some family research only to discover the archives are not open on a Monday; however, the staff were very friendly and helpful and directed us to the collection of local reference materials and we spent a coule of hours perusing. Perfect way to spend a rainy Monday morning.

Plenty of choice in reading matter. Staff always helpful and cheerful. They know who I am but there again I have been using the library for the last 24 years!
