If you're interested in design and architecture, especially the Arts and Crafts period, a trip to Blackwell is unmissable. The house - large but not gigantic - is fairly sparsely furnished to allow you to examine the beautiful fixtures. Small changing exhibitions are of a high quality, as are the contemporary crafts. The tea room is lovely too.

If at all interested in the Arts and Craft movement it's a must see. The property is so lovely , inside and out , with breathtaking views down to the lake. If you have paid to veiw the house use the cafeteria facility and enjoy your purchases outside in the grounds .

A beautiful house in an unusual but creative style. If you like Rene Macintosh you will love Blackwell House.

Excellent position in grounds overlooking Lake Windermere. Some beautiful stained glass windows. The main hall would be improved by having some furniture in it. The white room was a delight as was the dining room. The little cafe served excellent coffee and the staff were very pleasant.

What a fabulous Arts & Crafts house. I loved the white drawing room which has spectacular views across the lake. Whilst it's quite a grand house it's still got that homely feel to it. The day we visited there was wall to wall sunshine and the house was flooded with sunlight - absolutely glorious.

This Arts and Crafts house is to be found in beautiful countryside. The inside is gorgeous and the views across Windermere lake absolutely breathtaking. There are small gardens and a delightful tea room. It is a Grade one listed property, so although there is a ramp and a lift not all areas are accessible for those who cannot climb stairs.

This is such a beautiful house in a marvellous location on Windermere. The house is a fine example of the Arts and Crafts movement, and has been beautifully presented. The white drawing room is one of the loveliest rooms, ever. We both felt we could easily have lived in this house!

Interesting house and art displays. Enjoyed a bottle of Holts beer from the original owner's Manchester Brewery. Just the job for a wet day.

This is a wonderful house in a breathtaking location. Built by a family with very deep pockets and a total commitment to design. The recent renovation is superb. It is just as it would have been on the day it was handed over to the original owner. The building is totally true to the Arts and Crafts style and typically... More
