Blackwell is well worth a visit: the house is wonderful and the views from the terrace are exceptional. The architecture is fascinating and the special exhibitions that are regularly held here are interesting and varied. Spend some time on the terrace soaking up the views and take advantage of the lovely tea room. The gift shop has some wonderful things.

This is a lovely house to visit even if you are not interested in the Arts and Crafts style. If you have been to Hill House in Scotland or if you are a Rennie Mackintosh fan , you should visit Blackwell. There is actually a Rennie Mackintosh exhibition on at the moment. There is also a gift shop and a... More

Most beautiful house I've ever seen! The views were also spectacular. Enjoyed lunch in the tea room.

Even if you are not into Arts and Crafts, this lovely house is a little gem to visit - have a wander round the rooms and stop and have a sit in the White Drawing Room looking out over Lake Windermere to the Coniston Fells. There is usually an interesting exhibition on - currently Glasgow Style Arts and Crafts (excellent),... More

This should in no way deter you from visiting the house. However if you're on foot it's a one and a half to two mile walk up hill. So a car/taxi might suit some. Having said that, the views on route are stunning. We thought it more than worth the admission which includes discounts on entry to other museums etc.... More

We visit Blackwell almost every time we visit the Lakes - it's incredibly relaxing and the beauty of the Arts & Crafts designs are outstanding. I love to sit and soak it all up. Superb views and always inspirational.

I was so disappointed with my visit, and am only glad we were just passing through and hadn't driven out of our way to visit. Firstly, our welcome at reception was awful. Blank stare and after I'd asked to purchase two adult tickets she asked if we could gift aid, which I did, and then gave me a ticket. No... More

An interesting house, full of wood panelling. Good views over the lake. Intriguing history. I thought the arts & crafts rooms were fairly dull. However, certainly better than I was expecting overall and well worth a visit especially when it's raining !

I can imagine that for art and old-house aficionados this is great. For me it was just a nice house with many things of beaty. A bit of interesting history, mainly its usage as a school during WWII.

this lovingly preserved (but not precious) Arts & Crafts house is a real example of how our nations treasures can be thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated to the full with window seating that is meant to be sat on and embrace both the house and the stunning views.....
