This has some rare species, including bearded tits and marsh harriers. I do love going here for the nature, fresh air and, as a female, a sense of security because it is busy but this has its drawbacks for nature-watching and I am usually disturbed by people using the main path as a thoroughfare from the estate on one side... Numerous winter & resident warblers ducks and some waders. A good chance of the scarcely seen "bearded tit" or correctly named reedling. My highlight was spectacular flights of the resident "marsh harriers" hunting over the reed beds and being mobbed by crows making the flight manoeuvers even more dramatic. Ask about the resident interloper "hooded merganser"!

Squeezed in between radipole park drive, and the town relief round, the bird reserve is a special place although very close to Weymouth town centre. If you choose to walk the whole of the reserves circular route will take you a good hour or so. Stop on the bridge and feed the ducks and other wildfowl. The traffic on the... More

We were greeted by a very pleasant volunteer who gave us lots of info. There are drinks and food available. We had a very interesting walk around the lake and visited the hide. Not a great day for seeing birds but very pleasant area.

Almost in the middle of town, worth a visit, call in the visitor centre helpful friendly staff will explain what's happening, what's visiting the reserve at that moment, they also do a good cup of tea and a slice of locally made cake, then stroll around the reserve camera at the ready.

I visited Radipole lake while I was in Weymouth. I found my visit was disappointing as a lot of the reeds were overgrown and you see very little of the lake itself. I saw comarants, gulls, Marsh harrier, robins and various water birds. The best view was from the RSPB hut itself as the walk around the lake was disappointing.... More

We have been to this RSPB reserve before. Weymouth is lucky to have this wonderful place right in the town. The walk around the reserve is peaceful with good opportunities to use binoculars or cameras or just to sit and enjoy the scenery. Depending on the time of year of course there are different types of birds on the reserve.... More

Visiting the RSPB information building is the key to getting the knowledge of what birds and animals you're likely to see on the reserve. They have a board with what's been seen during the day but always ask the friendly staff if there's been anything else around that hasn't been written up. We had a coffee looking out of the... More
