Gateshead is a surprisingly green town with trees, grass and parks. One of the best is Saltwell park. Nice to walk around, or just to sit in peace.

Luckily, we live within a 20 minute walk of the park, so are able to wander along at various times of the year. The park is large with various sections: large open grassed areas; bandstand; lake, with rowing boats and miniature model boats at the weekend; various children's play parks for differing ages; bouncy castles and train on most weekends;... I grew up with this park and it's still one of the best in the region. It's changed a lot but still has all you'd want from a park and it's size means you can explore the whole day. My kids love it and we always wander finding parts to explore. Picnic and good weather make it an excellent family... More

Once the jewel in the Crown the park is starting to show signs of neglect. Despite the signs around the lake the good people of Gateshead insist on throwing left overs from their visit to Greggs into the water. You can enjoy a row in the boats or a paddle on the Swan boats if you can get past the... More

I was born close to saltwell park and spent many happy childhood days there. It has to be one of the best municipal parks in the UK. Over the last few years it has had a great deal of renovation carried out. Items which had been forgotten about are once again available for use. The Msze,Saltwell towers and the battlements... More

Love it. Such a great Park in the middle of gateshead. Cant wait for the firework this year. The dog lives the walks. The Bird and animal sections are great but the cafe in the towers is pricey and a bit scruffy.

I love Saltwell Park. There is so much to do there from playing on the grass to feeding the squirrels to walking round the lake, the maze and taking a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine. It's great for kids and adults alike. My 19 month old son loves it. Especially the pets corner with the Geordie Speaking parrot.
