This park is literally at the top of my street. A Victorian park that still retains many of it's old features. Huge boating lake, bowling greens, a dene complete with small brook and bridges, the original 'Salte Welle' and Saltwell Towers which was originally a residential property, then a museum, and now doubles as a coffee shop and occasional gallery.... As well as being a traditional park, Saltwell is often a setting for very unusual art displays and other attractions. In 2008 this involved special displays and lighting as part of the winter festival in the North East. There is also a very nice cafe - not a big selection of dishes but nice for a quick snack and a... More

Visited this park for the first time yesterday as we were visiting the area from Scotland and wanted to be outdoors to enjoy the sun. The park itself is massive and includes a couple of playparks, boating lake, maze and beautifully kept gardens. I'd imagine it'll be very busy during the summer months. Now that we have found this gem... More

I lived near Saltwall Park for over 6 years and loved having such a beautiful place on the doorstep. In the summer it was great to chill out after work when the evenings were bright and watch the sun go down. It was also my sanity when I took a break from work and used to walk for hours exploring... This is a lovely park one of the best in the country. It was nice going down memory lane as I used to come here in my lunch break from school in the 50's. There is a great lake to walk around and a childrens play area with swings etc. There is also a pets corner to visit and the... More

I've always loved it, the doves and peacocks, beautiful gardens, lake, nice to walk around. However, a good part of it is on a hill, just so you know if you've got problems walking or wheelchairs etc

I regularly go here because I'm a radio controlled boat enthusiast and love to sail on the lake here. But I also go because the place is beautiful. Its a large park with lots to see and do. Its got a lovely cafe at Saltwell Towers, has a rose garden, some animals, a maze, a doggie play area, kids play... More
